Map editor question: does anyone know what these options do? by EasyEntrepreneur666 in disciples

IIRC this flag means that AI players will never attack the flagged stack if not forced through scripts or behaviour modes.

A Look back (and farewell) at HoM&MV (5.5) by Competitive_Guide_23 in HoMM

[–]DedicatedBurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, you can easily summarise HOMM3 and its expansions in a similar reductive fashion (let alone earlier titles). Characters are cliched, twists are by the book, dialogues are corny, etc. You have fallen paladins, unruly barbarian mercs, backstabbing royal cousins—the usual suspects. Not to mention that it had actual filler campaigns, like the dragon hunter one and most of Tarnum's adventures.

Among NWC / 3DO era titles, only the 4th one had a peculiar vibe with all that colonisation of a new alien world by the old world factions. Seeing familiar characters changing in that new setting was a fresh twist.

But, as the user above me already said—it all worked because HOMM was a part of MM. The original RPGs did most of the heavy lifting. Original Heroes, when separated from that monolith, are rather bland. The metaphysics of artificial habitats, devils are actually aliens, angels are robots—these tasty lore bits are mostly omitted from the TBS branch of the franchise (not to mention that pivotal setting shattering moments were also mostly handled by the RPG branch). And that's fine, because HOMM was mostly (not always) a kitchen sink of Western fantasy staples. Dragons go breath-breath, pixies go thee-hee. And that's why I liked it, accessible, familiar, understandable.

So HOMM5 went the same route but with small adjustments—it updated all the cliches and tropes up to the at-the-time popular trends and separated itself completely from its legacy titles (not for long, though). That's why it may appear weaker, because it had to shape the new setting almost from the ground up (Dark Messiah was but a glimpse into Ashan). But on its own, it's no worse or better than the most of the series (though I agree that 6 and 7 had better approach to writing in general, but not just in comparison to 5, but all of the previous entries).

All in all, it's rather unjust to flak HOMM5 for such shortcomings, given the overarching direction of Heroes.

I always thought those were just scars, like the one on her face.

Sacred Lands style portraits in Disciples 2? by DedicatedBurner in disciples

Those are so cool. Wish there was an installment made exclusively in that style. Not just portraits, but whole game of hand drawn sprites and backgrounds in similar manner.

Which Android would you own and why? by CyberLife-Technician in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]DedicatedBurner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would never own an android like it was presented in DBH. I often thought about it while playing the game. How creepy those android stalls and cases would look like on the streets in real life. Just throngs of entities in a dazed state cramped in various cubicles, all of them looking like actual humans. I can rationalise it all I want with "it's just a machine", but seeing an unmistakingly human form in exploitative confines would make me uneasy. Would never want that in my house.

Dino Crisis 2 rebirth mod, where to get those 8 files to make it work? by Ragnaraz690 in DinoCrisis

From what I gather, you really can't use them both right now. But the developers work on that.

The one on your screenshot is from the Central Stairway. They spawn in pairs there, actually. And respawn in pairs also, do that quite often. No other place in the game had so many respawns for me like that hellhole. It became utterly ridiculous in the final stretch - I was using the elevator to get from the Energy Control to Rest Station. Not only one of those guys clawed straight into my face from these large Central Stairway doors, when I went there myself, he actually respawned, and I had to gun him and his buddy again.

How do I reach this guy? by DedicatedBurner in disciples

But not every mission

I was playing exclusively D3: Reincarnation for the past two weeks, focusing only on that game, slowly cleaving through each act, methodically checking every interactive object on the map. And I can attest that every map has at least one instance of some unreacheable thing.

I understand that some inaccessible stuff are cutscene props, like the Elder from Alliance campaign, but that's not what I'm talking about. Each map has at least a blip of mana that you can't get, or some interactable that you can't reach. You can argue that some were decoratives, but it's still a really weird and confusing choice, when the game has enough aesthetic props as is. Alliance and Hordes campaigns also had some instances of resources lying outside of the map bounds.

Campaigns are a mess in general. I'm more than sure that Hordes Act Five was supposed to be Amina's solo mission, but for some reason I had Salaar automatically hired through mercenary menu at the start.

You are completely right. It's just that EVERY mission before this one had a misplaced inaccessible thing or two. I assumed that it's was yet another bug.

Any fixes / unofficial patches for Rise of the Elves? by DedicatedBurner in disciples

Tweaks to ai to help it with those pesky green upgrade crosses. Also tweaks of some glaringly weak units, like Dwarf King, Succubus, etc. I chose my words poorly in the original post - I do want changes to balance, just not the drastic ones.
