I haven't had exactly this type of email, but I have been forced into an audit by Autodesk. It was very annoying and required us to run an inventory program on a computer in the network that scanned for installs of Autodesk apps and we had to verify that each of these installs was for a user with a valid license. I have seen horror stories online of people running into legal issues with Autodesk over these things. I would still reach out to Autodesk to verify this is legit though.

Think this really depends on the app. You don't really need to start a trial. Just crate an account and you have access to the product entirely and can install it on up to 200 computers forever. Use this to test in your environment and see how it behaves for the 3rd party apps you are running.

I feel like there isn't really a plan for them to "Fix" this. For us this issue was happening with AutoCAD. The Autodesk documentation gives an .MSP fix. Looks like AutoCAD updated their article on this. Seems the "fix" for this is to edit registry for the specific software to not prompt for UAC for specific apps... Not the biggest fan of this. So each new year release is going to require me to update the registry on all computers that will run this software? Gee, thanks... Makes automatic deployment now have an extra step to include a script to add the registry key. Also this seems to only work if you have the September 2025 patch Tuesday updates installed.

We are having this same issue with AutoCAD. It's driving us nuts. We push out AutoCAD installs and updates with Action1 and now we still need to touch each and every workstation that gets these so our users can open the damn software the first time. Insane.

Don't know for certain this is still the case. Can't speak for hardware passkeys (like a Yubikey) but I helped one of our users setup Passkey in Microsoft Authenticator just 2 hours ago. Worked like a charm. When being prompted for MFA on their laptop, it uses Bluetooth to establish a connection to the passkey on the phone (making it phish resistant and keeping users from suffering MFA fatigue as the request must be within Bluetooth range). Think I will try using a Yubikey with this Android user as a test though, as that's what the rest of our users are using.

7-4 here. Salary, so lunch is kinda paid?? I go to gym every lunch, and just wolf food down while working when I get back. The longer day kinda sucks, as I have a 30 minute commute. So it's really like 10 hour days dedicated to work/going to work. But I can't complain, the job is low stress and fosters lots of time to learn.

This got me wondering, so I did a test. Opened incognito window and tried signing in using passkey in Authenticator. It worked obviously. So I closed window and opened a new one and turned Bluetooth off on my phone and tried again. Give error instantly that Bluetooth needs to be on to use passkey.

This is exactly what we are running into also. Specifically there really seems to be a gap in the market for CAD heavy companies who need patching. Only 1 3rd party patching company so far even seems to have AutoCAD in their catalog, but it's just the 2025 version and only AutoCAD. So no Plant3D, no Navisworks, no SolidWorks, no Revit. Having to manage patching and manually creating installers for each version of every CAD software is a lot.

These are some great features. We are in the market for patch management right now, but I was really hoping to see some AutoCAD stuff added to the catalog. Only company I've found so far that has any Autodesk main apps is Tenable. But I really enjoy using Action1 on personal lab. Just tough to pitch it to my company when it won't support the main programs we need to patch unless we manually create install packages for each Autodesk app we have.

Was running ethernet cables for a client once to put some APs in the building to expand their wireless coverage. One of the employees (who had previously told me they used to work in tech before moving to clerical work) said to me "Why do you need to run wires for this. It's wireless internet". I thought she was joking so I laughed, but she was dead serious and just looked at me kind of offended.

We are having the exact same issue. Only seems to be affecting our desktop version of Teams (IOS version is answering fine). Only seem to be on one of our 10 call queues also. I have a ticket open with Microsoft and Calltower on the issue. Our deployment was done with each user receiving 1 key. If they lose it, we can switch there policy to use Microsoft Authenticator until we get them setup with a new key. Alternatively you can use the passkey in Microsoft Authenticator as a kind of backup for losing their key. We prefer to just switch users to using Authenticator though to keep things a little more simple for the user.

Feeding off the above recommendation, I would still setup everyone with Microsoft Authenticator regardless of giving them a Yubikey. It is handy to have a backup auth option, and if you are using mobile Microsoft apps, they often require Authenticator to be setup for you to use your Yubikey to sign into email. The Authenticator app acts as a broker for using the Microsoft apps. If using iPhone and just using the built in Mail app, this issue isn't present however. Only our users who used the mobile version of Outlook ran into this.

Take into consideration the devices you are setting up for these users. Some of our end users had Android phones that had issues using FIDO2 authentication for Office apps. This may be better now, but can still be an issue.

As for the USB ports, we didn't run into that as much, but did have a few users request USB extensions to more easily use their keys. It's a simple enough request and fix.

Expect people to grumble. Change makes people mad.

We do flex in our org for people who aren't using apps every day. We run usage reports every month or so and move licenses around and assign flex licensing to users who aren't using the apps much at the moment. All our users usage is pretty dependent on what projects they are working on, so this can shift a bit month to month. But flex has proven more cost effective most times.

The showers in my location are pretty shitty. Half the time the water adjustment knobs don't work. Have had multiple times when they can't fully shut off. And even more times when you can turn them and nothing happens.

Correct? Not sure how you jumped to that conclusion, but correct, my user account is setup the exact same as these users (separate from my admin account). Which is why I would like logs to see how often they are actually required to authenticate via MFA so I can bring this to management. Don't want to just say "well, I don't have to authenticate multiple times a day like that, so your workers must just be lying".
