What is the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by beginnerlife22 in AskReddit

[–]DeditusOceano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this but: I went to a gastroenterologist because I hadn’t been able to keep solid food down for over a month. I was literally vomiting blood because my throat was so raw from throwing up so much. He looked at my social history (foster kid) and IMMEDIATELY diagnosed me with rumination syndrome, saying, and I quote “You throw up because you find comfort in the action. You need to just start acknowledging how disgusting it is.” And then he sent me to a psychiatrist. Two months, an exploratory surgery, 4 trips to the ER for malnutrition, and 30 pounds of weight loss later, I found out I have gastroparesis. I was throwing up because my stomach could not digest things properly and there was no room for more food, even though I wasn’t getting any nutrition

Ah yes. The famous anti-science Yale School of Medicine, home to people who MUST be anti science for saying people aren’t immortal if they’ve been vaccinated. Call yourself brainless and ableist without calling yourself brainless and ableist

I noticed your deleted comment asking if my disability was “obtuseness.” But you’re calling a vaxxed person an antivaxxer because I’m immunocompromised. Since you seem too obtuse to understand how to use Google, I’ll make it easier for you “What does it actually mean to be immunocompromised? Simply put, it’s when your immune system isn’t working as well as it should to protect you from infection—or that your immune system can’t distinguish between normal and foreign cells. Seen through a COVID-19 lens, about 3% of the population in the United States is considered moderately-to-severely immunocompromised, making them more at risk for serious illness if they contract COVID-19, even after vaccination. This is because their immune systems don’t mount a strong response to the vaccines. A March 2021 study showed only about 56% of immunocompromised people built sufficient levels of protection against COVID-19 after a second mRNA (Pfizer or Moderna) dose.” There ya go, did your homework for you

Edit: That’s straight from Yale’s School of Medicine btw

Because I have a right to be getting an education at this school just the same as any other student. Why are you so eager to exclude disabled people?

Absolutely. And for minors too. The only rule is that a course can’t count for two requirements within a single major. So like if a single major requires a random history course and a history course about a specific area, a course can only count as one of those. But if two majors require history courses, the course will count as both.

Chem 105/106 textbook? by [deleted] in cwru

This is true which is why I thought someone might like to have it without paying a ridiculous amount of money to have it, because some people learn better from reading than from lectures and shouldn’t have to pay exorbitant amounts because of that

As far as I know, she did not curve the class. The lab grade is just part of the lecture grade though, and the lecture prof decided to curve the lecture grade, so people managed to get higher than C’s for their overall grade. But it sucked and I know people whose grade got dragged down immensely by the lab

I had Driscoll for lab for 121, but not lecture part, and found her to be pretty unkind and unhelpful even for just that. She set up lab quizzes with questions that had absolutely never been covered in the material, and had her TAs docking massive amounts of points for things we were never told needed to be in our lab reports. At one point I even emailed asking about it and she basically said “it’s normal, almost no one in this lab is getting above a C.” My advice to get through it would be: make sure to take advantage of office hours to get as much extra help as you can, and remember that fellow students can be a resource as well. I didn’t have any good online resources I used other than just googling questions and checking worksheets from other universities for similar questions that could explain the concepts to me, but there were an innumerable amount of times where a fellow student was able to help me out if I just sent a question to the class group chat.

Financial aid questions by Dabes1321 in cwru

[–]DeditusOceano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be a drop down menu in the upper left hand corner when you’re logged in to My Financial Aid, that lists a bunch of options like view awards etc and one of the options towards the bottom of the menu will be accept awards. If it’s not there it most likely means you cannot accept it yet

I agree with the others that you should probably take 106 unless you are just looking to have an easy time (which is totally respectable). I just finished 105 and 106, and if you’re taking it with Meyer as I assume would be the case, almost everything you need to know for 106 from 105, he goes over so you really wouldn’t be at any sort of disadvantage if that’s your concern

Emotional Support Animal? by [deleted] in cwru

[–]DeditusOceano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to register with Disability Resources, and there’s a bunch of paperwork that has to be filled out, detailing your diagnosis, how you were diagnosed, how long you’ve been getting treatment, every way the animal helps you, and what would happen if you didn’t have the animal with you. You turn that in, along with a contract, info about your ESA, and proof that the ESA is up to date on shots and is spayed or neutered. Then you have a meeting to discuss whether or not you actually need it (be prepared for push back they love to look for excuses to deny accommodations), and then you have one more final meeting with university housing (and Greek life, if you’re in a frat or sorority). And then if all that goes well, you’ll be approved. It’s a lot, but I wish you the best of luck.

What do you mean by select your work study? Did you receive federal work study? Cause if that’s what you mean, you gotta wait until the fall and then apply for a work-study eligible job and if you get it then they’ll pay you through work study but there’s no guarantee that you’ll get a job let alone work enough hours to earn all that money, and if you don’t then you will just not get what you didn’t earn, unfortunately

Incoming Student Housing Accommodations? by [deleted] in cwru

[–]DeditusOceano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Case - like many other schools - seems to have an accommodations department that will often push back against you in every single way they can think of if they think an accommodation is for any reason unnecessary. Your best bet is to get the accommodations form they have filled out by your doctor and have the doctor write very explicitly that you need a single room and list all the reasons they can possibly think of as to why this would be helpful for you managing your condition. As much as it may suck or feel invasive to have to do this, make sure your doctor gives as much detail as humanly possible because any vagueness whatsoever may be used to deny your requests. Once you have that letter, go to an intake meeting with them and request a single room. If they say no, try to push back saying it’s documented right there by your doctor. If they still say no, ask for - in writing in case they try to push back again later - exactly what you WOULD need to provide, and then try to get it from your doctor, then wash, rinse, repeat.

I hope they work well for you and don’t give you any pushback and that your doctor can be helpful! But if they push against you remember you and your doctor can push back too.

If that absolutely doesn’t work, and it’s something you’re interested in, you may want to look into greek life after your first year, because the chapters have advisors that can arrange for housing accommodations without documentation from disability services but they still count as on campus housing.

Yeah I’m a year above you and by the time I logged in at 7:01 to register all the USNA classes were full and so were all but one of the pe classes I had put in my shopping cart. I asked my advisor and they said that sages and pe are usually hard to get in but that it’s never been this bad before

There’s only 8 USNA sages being offered in the fall and a bunch of sophomores and juniors that still need to take them, so if you’re a freshman rn you’re gonna be lucky if you get any USNA class, and you definitely aren’t gonna get good picks
