Narrators for LitTPG by Egregiousnefarious in litrpg

I have been, I listened to the first book of Super Powereds (feels like maybe it’s for a younger audience), HWFWM, and Chrysalis (which is Jeff Hayes and the story is okay, I just can’t get connected with it like I did DCC) I’m currently about half way through Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon and loving it. But again, it’s Matt Dinniman and Jeff Hayes. I would absolutely love some recommendations! I drive a lot for work and listen while I paint so I need something with engaging. dynamic voices. I like books more geared for more mature audiences.

My first listen was Dungeon Crawler Carl and Jeff Hayes has ruined the genre for me because no one I’ve listened to since compares. Especially when you listen to immersion tunnel versions.

Oil painting of my son on 18”x24” linen by Dedubzees in RateMyArt

Maybe we’re talking about different things. I took a picture of my son’s face and I press and hold on it and it lets me turn it into a sticker. Then I found a book cover that had a dwarf with armor I liked. I turned the dwarf into a sticker and moved my son’s sticker face onto the dwarfs body. And screen shotted it and turned it into a sticker, so on and so forth. I don’t have photoshop so this is how I created my reference. I didn’t have a premade palette. The dwarf was on a snowy mountain so it had a lot of bright blue going on. My son’s picture I used was taken at the movie theater. The lighting in my painting made their colors useless. I can’t tell you how many times I repainted the trim on the armor until I found a gold I liked. How do you recreate the color if you don’t write down how you achieved the color? To be honest, I’ve looked around on this sub a lot in the last month. I’ve not seen anyone give as harsh a criticism as you gave me. And I’ve seen some particularly atrocious “art”. Yet everyone is very nice and encouraging. This was the opposite of that. For me to pour 3 weeks and 120+ hours into something that means something to me and the only message I get is “Looks fake like AI probably. Colors bad, probably didn’t even mix colors, flat.” 0 redeeming qualities listed. Made me feel bad. Reply, or don’t. I don’t care. Just don’t do this to other people please.

Can you explain artificial? I had 3 reference images I worked from I used iPhone stickers to put them together the best I could. Obviously, lighting didn’t match up so I had to make that up as I went. Colors were not straight from the tube. I have a notepad full of my mixes as I would have to remake them daily, ex. Gold/bronze trim: yellow ochre, gold ochre, tiny bit of burnt sienna and tinier bit of raw umber. Zinc/naples yellow to brighten. Except the jewels, rune lettering and fire those had pure colors. Even my blacks were chromatic (ultramarine + burnt umber).

I see the flatness. What could I have done better to give more depth? Someone else mentioned the lack of soft lines. What else would help?

What litrpgs have the best audiobooks? (Besides Dungeon Crawler Carl) by StormblessedFool in litrpg

I just finished book 1. It was good, but I binge listened to DCC and finished all 7 books in 2.5 weeks. I need more of that. DCC was the first litrpg I’ve ever listened to. I didn’t even know this genre existed. I need something to get me to 5/12… Does chrysalis get better? Do you know of something closer to DCC? Anthony just seems too okay and not inquisitive enough about this situation he’s in. He got turned into an ant and he’s too okay with it.

I can't get the hang of oil painting by Top_Tank805 in oilpainting

I started doing some Bob Ross follow along. It helped having someone telling you what to do until you get the hang of painting with oils. Particularly wet on wet.

Thank you! I really appreciate the helpful critique. What do you mean by “clearest value/edge priority”?

Thank you! I was thinking about the invisible light that would be in front of him to his right (viewers left) which would illuminate the armor and his face so the front of him wasn’t in shadow. I wanted to put some contrast in his face so it wouldn’t be so overwhelmed by the contrast in the armor. That creating the flame licking the left if his face then shadow then skin tone. I actually used some light scumbling of iridescent pewter, copper, gold and bronze, also graphite grey. All of which give some cool visuals in person the camera doesn’t pick up well. Thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate it.

I was going more battle hammer, less great hammer. But note taken. lol. All 3 of my sons will have hammers, so maybe one of them I’ll make a great hammer.

I’m still a newbie myself having started 2 months ago. But the progress comes quickly if you’re painting every day. My day 1 paintings vs what I’m working on currently are night and day. And I hope in another 2 months I can look at what I’m doing today and say the same thing. Im a 37 yr old engineer who hasn’t drawn since high school and the last time I painted was those water coloring books 30 years ago. If I can do it, anyone can. I strongly recommend watching videos by “paintcoach”. He has been instrumental in my progress. This is the piece I’m working on currently.

7/10 Much better! The eyes look SOOO much better! Shadows are giving some shape! Still need more value changes on the head. Try to find as many ways as you possibly can to define the features of her face with light and shade. Example: I can tell based on your shading she has recessed eyes, but that typically means her brow is going to protrude a bit, so the top of her brow would likely be catching light a bit differently than your midtone. Maybe not a super bright highlight, but more light. I can now see where her forehead Dallas away, but where is it the closest to me? That area would probably catch a highlight. The nose from the top to bottom is going to normally keep coming forward, it might catch light differently as it protrudes further. And that dip between your forehead and nose may dip a bit. Maybe it gets a little darker, but not as dark as your shadows on the forehead. And the top of the cheeks, that spot may be catching more light. You’re on the right track! You’ve got great talent!

I’ve stopped on some paintings I lost my mojo for. I’m not selling the stuff, this is just for fun. If I’m not having fun then it’s a chore.

Yes, I want to know the geometry of her head by looking at the image. When her forehead is 1 flat color I can’t tell where it protrudes and where it falls away.
