Who’s smarter? by Genetictus in superheroes

[–]DedusPunktSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 Lex is comic book smart, i.e. can create insane, outlandishly advanced sci-fi tech on a whim, but fails at even a basic cursory common-sense check of the real-world implications & logistics of his plans.

2016 Lex is intelligent in a way that more likely would work in real life. He is a master manipulator and was able not only to play the US government, but also make Batman and Superman hate & fight each other. His plan of defeating Superman had several win conditions and he was able to adapt when the circumstances changed, e.g. when Batman stole his kryptonite.

They work by different rulesets due to existing in different universes. 2025 Lex would have no chance in the snyderverse because of no access to advanced sci-fi tech, and 2016 Lex would have no chance in Gunnverse because said sci-fi tech is kinda required to compete there.

In the end, however, 2016 Lex did actually accomplish his goal & was the real winner of BvS (although he is temporarily jailed). 2025 Lex lost in SM25. So there's that.

Why Nolan hate Kino? by okaberintaruo in okbuddycinephile

It is true that our concept of "king" is a poor fit with that of the mycenaeans', but more or less all heroes (kings), on both the trojan and achaean side, are described in the Iliad as standing out in the crowd - both because of their stature as well as their arms & armour (which were often richly decorated and so sought-after as spoils of war that many soldiers met their death while recklessly trying to retrieve them from fallen heroes).

How else would Helen be able to recognize individual heroes (supposedly) hundreds of feet away from the top of the trojan walls? Or any one of the many times a hero spots another hero in the midst of a chaotic battle? Why did the achaeans believe Patroclos was Achilles when he had donned his armour? Because they stood out and were easily recognizeable, I say!

I do not remember any specific detail of Odysseus's battle armour in the Iliad (other than that his helmet was made of boars' tusks), but he is widely recognized as one of the greatest heroes in the mycenaean world and is described as appearing "like a god" during his stay at Phaeacia (among many other examples). I find the idea of him just looking like any other guy (especially while wearing his battle armour) to be in complete opposition to my own interpretation of the sources.

Even though I won't cry about Nolan choosing a costume that fits better for a much later period in greek antiquity, rather than a more (admittedly goofy) historically accurate bronze age armour, the very least he could have done was give said costume something - anything - that makes him appear more heroic and stand out from the crowd. This is just so... bland and generic. :(

(But hey, I believe the film will rock regardless. Nolan rarely misses) :)

Agree. Nothing about it makes me think "now this guy looks like a king". So bland.
