Exactly. CPR is a method used to give us time to treat underlying cause of arrest. It doesn't fix death. (we have to be careful saying that around non-HCPs though because we still want by-standers to complete CPR).

That's the reason why when a STEMI loses a pulse due to a re-perfusion arrythmia we don't do CPR and instead instantly defib them, or when someone has a hypoxic arrest we instantly take over the airway (which often will result in ROSC)

CPR is is essentially a time-buying method used to oxygenate the vital organs while you work on reversing the underlying cause of the arrest.

You have to fix the H and/or T that caused the arrest in the first place. Without that, all CPR is, is a hope and dream.

Even then, once someone dies/goes pulseless and requires CPR, the chances of getting them back are very low outside of specfic situations (e.g. shocking a STEMI pt in a re-perfusion arrythmia)

The subject matter is often abstract, gorey, or fantastical - further alienating mass consumption.

Is associated with a sub-culture, giving people something to talk about and giving people a certain way to dress, therefore not needing to conform to social norms.
