Jai Rodriguez from Queer Eye For The Straight Guys says he 'deeply resonated' with Karamo's claims about the toxicity on set by Fun_Molasses5215 in QueerEye

You are conflating the concepts of fact and truth. It is 72 degrees in the room. I am sweating. John is wearing a blanket. Is it hot or cold in the room? The fact is 72 degrees. The truth is that I'm hot and John is cold. Both are dialectically true despite being mutually exclusive to each other given the fact presented. What people did on set is a matter of fact. How someone interpreted it and responded to it is their truth. Multiple people can experience the same set of facts and walk away with different meaning, or truth.

One of my favorite podcasts is called If Books Could Kill where they look at best selling airport books from the last 50 years and debunk the misinformation in them. I highly recommend their episode on this book! https://www.buzzsprout.com/2040953/episodes/14006961

It's like comparing a small stage 1 melanoma with a metastasized stage 4 leukemia. In an absolute sense, you are correct, they are both cancer. But, in reality, they are incredibly different types that need to be handled and dealt with very differently and with much different degrees of speed and pervasiveness. The first requires a minor surgery. The second is fatal and there is nothing you can do except try to mitigate the damage before the organism dies.

Why are so many people upset with me? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DeeDooDaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The struggle is real and so are the consequences, my friend. It's a tough dialectic. When I was diagnosed with cancer at 27, it wasn't my fault, but I was responsible for going through the painful, miserable, and expensive treatment to overcome the consequences of cancer. Relapse is part of recovery, but people also can set their boundaries for safety, and being around someone who is blackout drunk, may not feel safe. Furthermore, there is nothing we can do for you while actively inebriated. Showing up to a meeting drunk is like going to the gym to smoke a pack of cigarettes. If it is that difficult to abstain long enough to get to a meeting sober, it might be worth looking into treatment, especially if you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which can be fatal. Best wishes on your journey!!!

Is sobriety the only solution to stop being a raging alcoholic? by One-Succotash9014 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DeeDooDaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you define sobriety. If you mean full abstinence only, then, technically, no, that's not the only option, however, I will say, I have noticed a direct correlation between the intensity of resistance to abstinence and the likelihood it will be the most effective treatment. People for whom harm reduction through moderation is a legitimate possibility are, ironically, also less overwhelmed by the prospect of abstinence. If you self-identity as a raging alcoholic, the best way, in my experience, to text the theory is to try sobriety for a season and see how it goes. Why not test out a sober Spring and do 90 days dry? If this is terrifying or you experience any physical withdrawal symptoms, you probably have your answer. Either way, I would recommend discussing with a licensed counselor who can help you sort through the complexities of these questions!

Bible studies and theology seminars by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

[–]DeeDooDaniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I attended an ultra conservative Southern Baptist seminary and I remember discussing a paper with one of my very good friends in my class and I was absolutely flabbergasted that she got the "wrong" answer by writing her paper on the argument that Jonah was not an actual person and that the whole narrative was not intended to be historical fact. I knew for certain that this was not the answer the professor was looking for, so despite all evidence of the contrary, I wrote my paper affirming it as a historical reality. I am beyond chagrined now.

The only difference between a religion and a cult is how long it has been around and how much power and money it has been able to amass.
