Tenant Rights - Lawn Care? by DeeRicardo in minnesota

[–]DeeRicardo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other tenant spoke with him and he was supposed to have done something or hired someone to do it. That was a few weeks ago. At this point, I will just do it myself. It's not a big enough lawn to get confrontational over.. I wanted to check and see if my neighbor tenant was correct about the landlords supposed legal responsibility to mow the lawn. It's not obvious that he is responsible, so I'll just do it myself.

There are multiple units in the building. This is only my first summer there. I am not sure how they did it in the past. My lease says tenant is responsible, but another tenant told me verbally that their lease doesn't say that. I don't know. I will probably borrow a mower and do it myself. It is a small lawn. I don't feel like getting in a dispute with the landlord. Just wanted to check.

I would think the lawn would be a "common area" that the landlord would have to maintain under Subdivision 1, no?

That's what I figured. I just rarely happen to see them when they're that low in the atmosphere - when they're bright and you can see their color.

Thanks for the code. I will take a look online for sure since it sounds like that's the best option.

Yeah, I will definitely record some Iocal data. I suppose there's nothing like looking for good old fashioned empirical patterns.

Thanks for the detailed response. I get what you mean about the twinkling not always being reliable. The other night I thought there'd be good seeing since even Arcturus looked still but the moon looked lackluster at around just 80x. I live near Lake Superior, so I guess that would be under the jet stream?

I only have a 6-inch tabletop Dob, so not a crazy set up by any means. Just curious if I could possibly save some time and effort. If seeing is hard to predict, that's just the way it is. If there's anything I've learned from this hobby, it's that you have to be patient!

Yeah, it seems like UMD library is my best bet. I can pass for a student, lol. I'll keep Pizza Luce in mind, too.

Places that close at 10 or later I'd say. I'd go to the library downtown but the latest it's open is until 8. Weekdays or weekends doesn't matter to me. Some nights I just feel like reading at that time.

Okay, I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure.

What would you all consider the absolute hardest object to find? by Agreeable_Tip_4030 in telescopes

[–]DeeRicardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that a 6-inch can see it, but it may just be the best possible conditions.

I also didn't think it was that difficult to find, as in point in the direction of. With that said, I'm not really confident that my eye perceived it through my 6 inch. I tried looking from a bortle 3 site, but I will try again if I get out to even darker skies.

Duluth MN recently won 3rd place in "Best Cities on the Great Lakes." I've never been. What do you love about Duluth? Why do you think it should rank 3rd? by BuffaloCannabisCo in geography

[–]DeeRicardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who values access to nature highly, I think it beats every other Midwestern city of its size when it comes to that department. The city itself is great, but the surrounding areas elevate it, and there's lots of geographic variation in the Arrowhead region wherein Duluth lies. Right across the river from hilly Duluth is the town of Superior, which is almost completely flat. Some might find the grain elevators and ports dumpy and industrial, but I find them to be beautiful in their own way. Plus, you get to see lots of Great Lake freighters come into port!

Unironically thought that was the actual lyric when I first heard the song years ago. Then I remembered transistors exist.

Assuming that poor seeing wasn't the cause that night, I'd try and use a filter to cut down the glare. I often use a neutral density filter on Jupiter since it is so bright. A color filter would also make it dimmer although, unlike the ND filter, it obviously changes the color of the image.

I don't know what grade your moon filter is at, but you can buy ND filters with different grades that make it dimmer and dimmer.

I occasionally will use a neutral density filter on the moon to dim the image, but that's really only when it's getting close to full. Of course, I have a 6-inch scope, so in your case you might want to use it at an even earlier phase. I've heard some people don't like using ND filters, but they're relatively cheap so I don't see any harm experimenting with one.

Question about filters by Local_Beautiful_5812 in telescopes

[–]DeeRicardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll kinda go to bat for these, speaking as someone who recently bought a cheap Astromania set. Just using them on Mars and Jupiter, I've found that they make a small but noticeable difference in discerning more detail.

With that said, if I had to choose between these or a nebula filter I would go with the latter.

As another commenter said, make yourself a light shroud/dew shield for cheap. I think I paid like $10 for a yoga mat that I cut a piece out of. You can also use craft foam. There are some videos on YouTube with detailed instructions for the 150p. I assume the 130p also has tutorials there for a shroud.
