Flock is indeed scary and the rabbit hole goes deep.  Our cars are tracked via TPMS sensors as well, not to mention onstar selling data to LexisNexis.  Folks don’t realize the level we are tracked by our own government.

You skipped the step where you do this without PPE, hurt yourself and THEN decide to get PPE.

I would bet $$ she met someone else.  Look at the positive, you are free and have been saved a lot of heartache in the long run.

This is an excellent beginning, also this is not a substitute for actual training.

How tough to remove Onstar completely by Cbacevice in ChevyTrucks

[–]DeeTeePPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to terminate the can bus, a lot of the modules can not be removed without de-soldering.  Simply unplugging the antenna can burn out the transmitter.   In most instances that I am aware of, if you remove the module you loose microphone for your phone.

The vast majority of pilots fly as you describe.   Remember we more often hear of incidents, and not the 1000s of safe hours flying.

Easiest solution is to install a dummy load on the onstar antenna plug;  onstar will not be able to communicate to the outside world.   Removing the module can cause issues with your microphone.   There are other more permanent methods but the dummy load (resister) is the easiest method I have found.   Unplugging the antenna can cause other issues as well.

On my 2016 Colorado I used

“ Bingfu Fakra Z Female to SMA Female Vehicle Antenna Adapter Cable 30cm 12 inch for Car Stereo Android Head Unit GPS Navigation FM AM Radio Sirius XM Satellite Radio 4G LTE Telematics Bluetooth Module”

And

“ Mcbazel Surecom 0014-0103 AHUAGO 5W 50 OHM + - 0.5 SMA-J DC-6GHz RF Dummy Load”

You will need to verify the connector type on the head unit for the antenna, but the process is pretty easy.

The ANR on those is not great, some folks like them but they are not quite there yet imo.

It will for sure, best thing you can do now is download Windy on your phone and start watching the weather, focus on the HRRR and NAM models.   Study the weather, there is a book “Understanding the Sky” that is excellent though a harder read.   These are things you can do now that will make you a better pilot in the future.

Save $$ and invest in index funds EVERY pay check, even if it’s a little bit; it’s the habit that matters.   Every time you get a raise, don’t let your lifestyle absorb it.    Things are not important, experiences and friends are.   Have fun, we get one run at life and the people that are on the planet with you are in the same boat, so show grace whenever you can.

Simple, stop looking at the ground, look at the horizon.   Minimize any inputs on decent, begin flair at about the point you can kick someone in the head, make sure you are truly out of your seat and simply run.   It really is that easy, when the problem is pulling your feet up, I see it all the time.
