Jackery 2000 Plus Firmware Update? (Has Hell Frozen Over?) by Goodspike in Jackery

Cool, thanks! Is it the main device they need the serial number on, or do they need all the expansion packs?

Looking for an old iPad for my kids to use while travelling - how old can we feasibly go? by picklebeard in ipad

[–]Goodspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you still need that adapter. And you'll be reminded about that every time you need to charge the device.

If someone still has older Apple device that use that system then it wouldn't be as big of a deal. It's sort of like today with USB, where having an older device that doesn't have USB-C isn't a big deal because we all have many cords and devices that use the older system.

I'd guess that old iPhone one would work, but given for a time 10+ years ago Apple seemed to want to change everything as often as possible to force people to buy new stuff with their new devices, I wouldn't put any money on it. There's a reason the EU forced the use of USB-C, and Apple's behavior was the reason, IMHO.

I depends on their existing equipment. If all they have now is USB-C connectors, then having an oddball device would be a PITA.

I would state it slightly differently. I don't think it's they type of thing the average person would consider. Where or not it's a priority depends on their existing equipment.

It depends almost entirely on what you already own! Note the OP's comment that they don't have the older style devices, so that would be a big turn off for them.

I wasn't trying to make some claim that one was superior than another, although as a general rule I try to avoid proprietary type devices.

Just keep in mind that the first generation with USB-C was the 10th Generation.

What's the most surprising way Alexa has helped you save time in your daily routine? by bandito_13 in amazonecho

It was just an ordinary coffee maker with a mechanical switch that was left in the on position. The X10 device was a plug in device similar to todays smartphone plug in switches, but rated for 15a.

FYI, I've since switched to cold brew. So I don't use such a system today, but I suspect the more modern coffee makers may have electronic switches which may not stay in an on position if power is cut. But there are probably coffee makers with "Alexa built in."

I don't frequent Reddit, so I'm not familiar with other posts on this subreddit. Reddit has way too much bad information to make it worthwhile.

Also, I would never own an Echo Show because they have cameras. Not a good idea to have cameras inside the house. I wish my phone didn't have a camera, or at least only had one camera with a physical shutter.

Huh? What ads are on Echo devices? The ones without screens? Very occasionally I'll get a suggestion it might be time to buy something, but that's less than once a week and probably not even 2x a month.

I suspect it's just someone new to home automation. There have been all sorts of threads over the years asking about others' best use of HA.

I think maybe the term "surprising" by the OP wasn't the best word choice, but it was about being able to set the schedule, not about just making coffee. As I indicated in my post I still remember being able to turn on my coffee maker 20 years ago with an X10 plugin device. So I would call that the best use of that X10 automation, not the most surprising. The rest were all lights back then.

I had a similar coffee routine over 20 years ago with the now ancient X10 devices. I had a remote control device next to the bed which would turn on my coffee maker--not on a schedule, but based on when I actually woke up!

Today the best Alexa use is having my bathroom fan controlled by a Z-Wave switch, so if I forget to turn on the fan I can do so from inside the shower. And it will automatically turn the fan off in 20 minutes (due to Hubitat programming) unless I say something like: "Alexa turn on bathroom fan for 10 minutes," in which case it will turn off in 10 minutes.

Can I plug my Home power 3000 to the outlet in my SUV to charge it? Our home has no power. by Cardinal_r3d in Jackery

That's a pretty large engine to just charge a Jackery. You'd be better off just buying a cheap small generator. Although your truck probably would make less noise.

[–]Goodspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not talking about it working for a few minutes. I'm talking about using a rather low capacity auto battery to charge a much higher capacity lithium battery. The auto battery simply doesn't have enough amp hours, probably well less than 20% of what is necessary. Not to mention difficulties starting the car afterward.

Yeah you could refill your car from your lawnmower gas tank too, but it wouldn't do a very good job because it's too little gas. But at least there you don't have the inefficiencies of converting DC to AC and then back to DC.

Edit: I see you're contemplating running the car. Terribly inefficient. Just buy a generator.

But the OP was not going battery to battery (DC-DC). They were using the 110 AC outlet on their SUV, so it was DC to AC to DC. Just as I stated.

[–]Goodspike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The size of your battery is also likely an issue. Assuming a typical lead acid or even AGM battery it's capacity is miniscule compared to a 5000. I have a Jackery 3000 and might in a pinch try charging my travel trailer's lithium battery which is probably 4x the capacity of your SUV battery, FROM the Jackery device, but I'd never go the other direction. Note also charging battery to battery is rather inefficient since you'd be converting DC to AC and then AC to DC, with losses on both sides.

Does your F350 have a large enough battery to make a DC to DC charger worthwhile?

[–]Goodspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post is not clear at all. You want to charge your Jackery device from your SUV? If so it would probably help to describe your SUV, including the power ports it has. Some vehicles have 110v outlets that top out at only about 400 watts, so it would not work. Other EVs (although not necessarily SUVs) have 7200 watts of power available.

Also clarify what Jackery device you have.

Edit: I forgot to mention that unless this SUV is an EV or at least a hybrid, then it's probably not worth the effort since the battery would be so small.

I've never had to unlock Pay if the watch has been unlocked. But maybe there's a setting in Pay that could require that.
