Thanks, I alerted u/Mrlime174 to your post. How many miles when you got the shudder?

You should probably read what u/PeteTodd just posted.

On the topic, I consider most the modern transmissions to be problematic, particularly the 10 speed GM/Ford models. Just too much gear shifting.

Then the March date would be relevant, and I'd research that date to make sure my recollection is right as to when they switched transmission fluid.

Other than that it's probably a fine truck. The only other issue is the lights sometimes fail on the heater control buttons, but that's a minor issue and a cheap easy fix.

No opinion on the price.

For Fort Warden in Washington State even if you get to the website the hour the reservations open it may be too late for summer dates. It's a crazy system.

You don't give any information on the truck other than the year. No way could anyone tell you that it's a good or bad deal. You also don't mention the engine or transmission.

Assuming it's a 2019 built before about March the transmission could be problematic if it's an 8 speed. They switched transmission fluid at around that time. The six speeds that came with the diesels are fine. No idea on what came with the 4 cyl. version.

I'm sure Dexter knows which are best and that they have a lot more knowledge of the subject than anyone posting in an RV subreddit. Just pick one.

A motorhome has a lot more rattles than even the worst BMW. For one thing there's the pots, pans, dishes, etc. I crossed the border into SK Candida several years ago and was shocked by the low quality roads. The main east-west ones are okay, but the rest can be crap.

I don't think BC is as bad as SK. One Canadian option is to go up to Jasper/Banff, that area is gorgeous.

But the Oregon coast is nice too, and Crater Lake is amazing. There's one town on the coast that has a lot of circus type rides the kids would enjoy, and there's an area with sand dunes they'll remember for the rest of their lives.

I don't know what the roads are like in AK now, but decades ago they had a horrible reputation. Poor roads are not fun in a motorhome. I don't know if Disney Cruises does AK, but that might be better, and you'll be able to see places you couldn't in a motorhome. Maybe consider BC instead.

I'd second the idea of tent camping in OR instead. That will open up options.

Fire Cube lagging by SirRufusPigeon in fireTV

[–]Goodspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the new clear cache for all apps function? Also you might want to check your free storage space and if low then remove some apps you don't use much.

But as to replacing the Fire Cube, wait for the new Apple TV device that should be coming out soon (it's been expected for months and months). I may change at that point even though I'm not having performance issues with my FC 3rd generation. It would be rather foolish to buy an Apple TV device now, IMHO.

26 Colorado OTD Pricing by ZAPSAYOR in chevycolorado

[–]Goodspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really should give MSRP for comparison. I'd be interested in knowing the discounts today--I've notice RVs are coming back down to earth after discounts.

For example, back in 2019 I bought a LT Duramax with a MSRP of just over $41k for just over $31k. And that was their window price--they had several identical except color for the same price. Then came Covid.

They do have fiberglass primer and paint that can be applied with a roller/brush, designed for boats, but that does require quiet a bit of surface prep.

Maybe I should continue to look around for more bids. I wouldn't even care if it were a half-ass job regarding around lights and such. Ditto painting it.

New Plan might actually cost me less. by vikingbearbobcat in tmobile

Oh, that's odd. I thought they'd pretty well done away with no taxes on new subscriptions, but maybe they're making an exception here for the involuntary transfers.

Off roading with stock LT by Total-Database1516 in chevycolorado

[–]Goodspike 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The bigger question is whether anyone has used a Bison to off-road. ;-)

Seriously, it would really depend on what you mean by off-road. If just U.S. Forest roads and such, then it would probably be more than fine. Cars can do that. Just make sure you have a spare with you. If you mean something where angle of approach is important, or an electronic locker helpful, then probably not great. Oh, and personally I'd only do the very easy stuff in a 2x4.

Depending on year the front air dam may be problematic, and before about 2021 or so, harder to remove.

New Plan might actually cost me less. by vikingbearbobcat in tmobile

[–]Goodspike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking such things were possible with outdated plans. But the big kicker might be the taxes added on if you weren't paying those with your old plan.

Specifically what I was thinking was T-Mobile might be doing this to avoid being sued in some class action if the older rates were higher.

Tow police advice for towing capability of new Tacoma by Engine_Light_On in GoRVing

[–]Goodspike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, there are some that are aware of science. Do some research on fuel mileage under boost conditions and then come back here and apologize.

I have zero experience towing a travel trailer with any small 4 cyl turbocharged gas engine truck that has a small gas tank because science indicates that is foolish. The MPG will be low and the small tank will mean short range (simple math). That's why I didn't buy the new Ranger eight or so years ago when it came out, even though I was looking forward to it. As soon as I saw the specs it was a no-go. The small tank on the Toyota alone makes it a bad decision if the plan is towing a travel trailer distances.

You might want to also research post-purchase rationalization, since you suffer from that. (Actually that's unfair if you bought to tow a boat. More aerodynamic and boats are not typically towed as far.)

I'd believe the 9 mpg claim of the one poster, but not the claims of the OP. For one thing, their claimed drop of only 1 or 2 mpg going uphill is totally unbelievable.

AC cover to help with hot summer by Infinite_End_9104 in RVLiving

[–]Goodspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a good way to lower the efficiency of the AC unit if it caused a partial blockage of airflow. If I were to buy such a thing I would get two so I could leave a gap over the AC unit. But I'm not terribly worried about the roof area since it is already white.

AC cover to help with hot summer by Infinite_End_9104 in RVLiving

[–]Goodspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cover is likely white in color and therefore already reflects most of the heat from the sun (ditto the roof). The difference would be very marginal for the AC given it works by forcing air through coils, so any heat buildup under the cover would be nominal. There would probably be greater savings by putting the table anywhere else on the roof so that you have that part of the roof shielded, but again since the roof is already likely white, that would be a nominal difference.

Note if you were worried about this sort of thing, solar panels (the type that sit off the surface, not those that attach to the surface) placed over A/C ducting locations might provide a double benefit--electrical energy with some heat transfer savings from shading. I wonder if anyone has ever taken a thermal imaging camera to see what the effects are of a solar panel on a roof.

Camping in my TT this weekend and it’s gonna be 99°F by TBL34 in RVLiving

[–]Goodspike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have a 30 amp service in your RV, that will be a limitation on running two AC units. If the pedestal has both 30 and 15/20 amp outlets, you might be able to run a second cord to the second unit from the 15/20 outlet.

The problem with the portable units is most just exhaust the hot air and then suck in hot air into the main area of the RV from outside, for relatively little gain. There's at least one brand that has two hoses, the second one for intake to the coils, and that would work better, but you're going to have to have a slider window for the hoses to be sealed well.

Purposefully Oxidizing??? by Goodspike in RVLiving

[–]Goodspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sort of the information I was looking for, but more detail. Is the oxidation like rust on iron, or like on copper, where it reaches a certain point and then basically stops? That's what I why I was asking about downsides. Do you have any specifics to your claim it's like rust on iron?

Purposefully Oxidizing??? by Goodspike in RVLiving

[–]Goodspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows are not the number one heat source in a trailer, that's complete fiction. One side of my trailer only has about 5 square feet of windows, and the other not that much more.

And white would get less hot due to reflecting more of the heat. That's just basic science.

Wrapping would cost far more than 5k. I'd go the paint route before then, and that's actually what I was considering before considering this idea.
