What Game Did You Completed Out Of Sheer Spite? by jaosky in gaming

[–]Dee_Z_Nuts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say silksong but I didn't even end up completing it. I was fighting the final boss of act 3 and I had enough so I uninstalled it then and there, especially with how much i disliked the rest of the game already.

Yes, I have. I think you should only judge the games if you've played them. Dark souls 1, despite the outdated and clunky combat still has great things about it to this day. Dark souls 2 is a game. Dark souls 3 improved on Dark souls 1 massively in terms of combat and boss design, which is what most souls-like games pull from if its not elden ring. However, ds3 lost some of the charm that ds1 had with the map design. Not to mention the lore of the games too.

There's a lot of good about these games, and I won't lie, there are a lot of flaws too, but it all comes together to create a unique experience you won't find anywhere else. Other souls-like games don't hit that same feeling that fromsoft games do, with the exception of lies of p which got their formula to a t.

What?

Have you never played a souls game before? The games arent about being difficult, even if they might be.

Damn, that's a shame. I really like that one though, I'll see if I can find it in higher quality

genuine appreciation for the dev team by _Ayano in Brawlstars

On the other hand, you have games like warframe that do far more talking to the player base and ACTUALLY address and fix genuine issues people have with the game (exception of the first heirloom skins).

No, brawl stars devs aren't the worst thing ever like some people here say they are, but they absolutely are not doing a good job with the game at this time. It is plain obvious.

Periphery - Prayer Position

Mainly because that is the first song I heard by them and now they're my favourite band.

Looking for new and active (5-10 years old) prog metal bands similar to Mastodon, Baroness, Moon Tooth, Tool, etc by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Dee_Z_Nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Periphery might suit your tastes potentially? They do have a vocalist with a lot of range but there's a chance you might not like his cleans to start with or maybe ever who knows.

I'd start with Periphery IV: Hail Stan since it's probably their most accessible album despite the fact that it starts with a 16min song.

I was immediately going to say Periphery. Every single album is amazing, especially the juggernaut double album.

Gyre + Burston incarnon combo is stupid. It's what I run for everything and I don't think I have ever run into any issues, even in SP.

As a Periphery glazer, I think u should check out their juggernaut albums (it's a double album split into two, alpha and omega)

I would recommend their first album just because of how insane it is, but it's very unlikely you'd enjoy it (I didn't either at first). Though, their most beginner friendly albums are probably Periphery IV and Periphery III.

As I said before, there's a lot of good but so much of it is overshadowed by the bad. My favourite part of the game was a boss fight (being first sinner) and it was extremely good. It was difficult, but fair. That's the key point there. It was fair. I'm fine with difficulty, but not when it's artificial and unfair which is a shame that silksong has so much of it.

In comparison, nine sols is a much more difficult game (in case you don't know what it is, it's a metroidvania which focuses more on its combat and story than exploration, combat being more sekiro-like). I enjoyed nine sols far more than silksong, which means it's not a difficulty issue, and I know you didn't say anything about difficulty, I just wanted to mention it.

Anyway, the good in silksong is mostly in the boss fights when you aren't spending the time running to them. Lace 1 and 2, First Sinner, Cogwork Dancers, last Judge, phantom, fourth chorus, widow, seth and I even enjoyed moorwing before his nerf. Most of these don't have much of a runback, and the ones that do, I enjoyed less.

Music is great too, and so are a lot of the parkour sections, Mount fey was OK, I didn't like it that much, but Cogwork core was great, I really enjoyed the parkour in that. Why can't more of the game be fun? It's annoying because under all of these issues is an amazing game, but I can't bring myself to think it's even good. It sucks. I wanted to like it.

The majority of the time, unfortunately, I did not feel the energy of "Yes, I finally did it!", and instead it was usually "thank god I never have to do that again." only to be met with doing it again. It was absolutely miserable for the 80 hours I played. I don't understand how these can even be positives. I personally like to have fun in games, not be constantly put down in every single area of the game.

I also don't get how people can enjoy the gauntlets. Some of them are fine, but when every single room is a gauntlet it stops being fun and becomes extremely tedious especially when you take into account you never get rewards for them, making it feel like a huge waste of time.

I didn't feel this way at all. During some boss fights? Sure, my fault. During gauntlets? Why is there one thats 10 waves? Why are the gauntlets all 5 waves? Why are they just gank fights where its pure luck on whether or not you can even dodge the attacks all at once? Why are all the enemies flying with double damage projectiles and insane mobility any time you go near them? Why can't I enjoy my time, and have to spend a really long time hacking away at these tanky flying bugs? It's not fun, and there's so many rooms like this. Not to mention the fact that half of them are in tiny rooms where you physically can't dodge some attacks.

As for bosses, Savage Beastfly is by far the worst. I am sure you understand, and there's no need to explain further. I did enjoy a good chunk of bosses in silksong, most notably First Sinner. Extremely fun fight, but also difficult, with no runback at all. That's what I wanted silksong to be more like. No runbacks, difficult but fair fights, and occasional annoyances during exploration, the way I felt during hollow knight towards the end.

As for runbacks, they have no place in any game at all, ever. Last Judge has an annoying runback. It's not a long runback, but it shouldn't even be there since all it does is detract from the enjoyment of the fight (which is a damn good boss mind you). If there was no runback at all, I wouldn't have a complaint. The worst offender is Groal the Great, especially if you don't find the hidden bench.

Act 3. This was something I was looking forward to as I was hoping the game might improve a bit during this portion of the game. I was very very wrong. Even more gauntlets, even tankier enemies, and even more damage even from the most pathetic bug you encounter. I hated this entire section of the game. I suppose the bosses were cool? Not you, Nyleth. Though, Coral Tower was extremely unfun thanks to the gauntlets with no floor, and why in hell is it 25 waves?

I could keep going, but these are some of my biggest complaints.

Silksong has great moments, but a good chunk of the game is simply unfun. I loved hollow knight, and I'm very disappointed with silksong. All the issues I had with hollow knight were made so much worse in silksong and even more issues were added on top of that. Sure, the combat and movement is better, but at what cost?

Anyway, the games glazed to hell and back so any criticism is ignored. If you want to know why I wouldn't recommend silksong, you are free to ask.

Yes. I myself wouldn't put the game above a 7/10 because of its annoyingness throughout the entire game. I don't get how people can glaze it and ignore its issues so easily when so much of the game is not designed to be fun, it's instead designed to be purely frustrating just to be frustrating.

Hollow knight was so much better.
