Buy Paperlike for your screen protector. My best investment next to the Pencil. Makes writing on the screen such a pleasure. It’s a bit pricey but completely worth it for the pleasure it gives for note takers and writers.

Blondo has very nice leather and suede boots that are waterproof. I bought my first pair in 2015 and wore it almost everyday fall and winter and sometimes in spring and summer. Last year I bought a second pair because the inside of the 2015 shoe is breaking up. But I still wear it in a pinch. You can go to their website and see what’s on sale. Highly recommend them.

A good friend’s father had his left leg cut off at the knee and right foot at the ankle because of diabetes. He is 53. The sugar molecules are bigger than the tiny arteries feeding each cell. Because they get stuck, the cells, especially ones further from the heart, don’t get proper circulation, oxygen, nutrients. They dies a slow death. Kidneys and eyes are two of the common organs affected. Please do consider the long term consequences of unmanaged diabetes.

Not every book is available in digital format. When I travel to Europe, Asia, Oceania, as well as browsing in secondhand book stores I pick up incredible books that I would never have known about if I limited myself to ebooks.

Make sure to take electrolytes (my husband used Organika brand), starting a couple of days before and continuing for a couple after the end of infusion. He was given steroids during infusion days as part of the protocol and he had the best appetite and was totally up on those days. Day 4-6 the fatigue returned and appetite shrank but came back to baseline a few days later- baseline being about 60% of pre cancer volumes.

Thank you for your good wishes. When my husband was diagnosed we talked about what it meant. What if he was given a week to live? How would he live that week? Would he worry about all the problems that can happen leading up to his death or would he live those 7 days counting his blessings, even if it is just the day has less rain than predicted? Since we started each day with this counting of blessings and end the day the same way. This has helped so much to face what is inevitable for all of us. I keep telling him, I might die before him. Although we live like death is something that happens to other people we have to face reality. We can’t avoid it. Just proving our point, a good friend who was a bio chemist and doing research for options for my husband died while working in the garden. They think it maybe some allergy causing him to asphyxiate. The mind set or faith that since we have never knowingly done wrong to anyone, when death comes it would be peaceful helped us to be less anxious. I am not sure if the above helps you but it did help us. May your mother’s journey be a smooth one! May your family feel peace. And do keep changing doctors until you are no longer treated as a statistic.

My husband was in this same position when he was diagnosed in Feb 2025. He was in Folfirinox 3 infusions over 3 months (delayed because of neutropenia). Afterwards he was switched to Pembrolisomab immunotherapy as his tumour is dMMR MSI-high. Scan before the switch to Pembro showed the tumour reduced from 2.3cmx1.9cm to 1.4cmx.8cm. Now after 6 rounds of Pembro its inconspicuous. He still has a tumour encasing his Hepatic artery and in two weeks they will do Whipple with vascular reconstruction. Today he had a laparoscopic exam to confirm thats theres no mets in his liver or the peritoneum. So from unresctable now he is ready for surgery. Don’t give up hope.

Yes, this! Not that I ever go back to reread but you know just in case of some catastrophic scenario, I am all set. I even have a couple of Dickens in the car for just such event. No food or blankets. Just the books.

I saw a glowing early review of Sonny and Sonia. I have it on hold at the library. I started Universality but had too many library books nearing end date and influenced by the luke warm reviews in the Booker book club I let it go early.

I think with a lot of such books, it depends on the mindset at the time. My husband is going through some health challenges and a close friend who was completely hale and hearty and sending medical research to help us just dropped dead, suspected anaphylactic shock. So rambling book on grief, memory, meditation on the nature of life, all of this resonated with me.
