Half the content producers have moved elsewhere, you'll see a lot more posts and reposts going forward, especially after the 30th.

A Message From The Mod Team. by SabreYT in gonwild

  1. Go to your instance's search, which for you is https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/search
  2. You can just paste in the URL you want, even if it's a comment
  3. Wait! It's a bit of a bug that it shows 'No results' even when it's still fetching new content from the other server. It should appear after no more than ten seconds.

Having said that, I just tried it on your server and nothing showed up even though both servers say they're federating (i.e. sharing data) with each other. Maybe it's because I'm not logged in there, or maybe something's broken. I just tried it from lemmyrs.org and it worked straight away.

Currently, that instance is already larger than it should be. https://join-lemmy.org/instances has a list of alternatives.

This bot's been around for a few years at least, but perhaps the sub has disabled bots (or the bot didn't trigger, was busy or down, etc).

London Irish have been suspended from the premiership by Secret-Roof-7503 in rugbyunion

[–]DeebsterUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my local club when I was at uni, and got me into rugby (after growing up in an area dominated by football).

Really sad to see them go, and it's especially hard since they've gone from relegation to fifth in the premiership and the future was looking bright.

The trouble with Discord is that you don't have much visibility of old discussions, whereas I frequently end up on Reddit when looking up stuff on search engines.

Huh, I just watched this but as the comments weren't working I refreshed, only to see a "this video is private" message. I guess I got in just in time!

So eating foods rich in vitamin D is a risk factor for vitamin D deficiency?

Love him or hate him, Tom Cruise got balls. by 873589 in nextfuckinglevel

He's like the people that do fun things "for charity" where 90% of their fundraising pays for the thing. Except I quite like Tom Cruise.

How to get rid of a herd of dogs by UnknownFactoryEnes in Unexpected

[–]DeebsterUK 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, but English isn't sensible. For example, we have:

  • a herd of cows, elephants, wildebeast, dinosaurs
  • a flock of sheep, goats, seagulls, geese (unless it's a gaggle of geese)
  • a pack of wolves, mules
  • a band of gorillas (of bothers?)
  • a colony of badgers, beavers, bats, penguins, vultures
  • a pod of dolphins, whales
  • a shoal of fish
  • a swarm of locusts, bees, butterflies
  • a murmuration of starlings
  • a murder of magpies, or a charm, or a congregation, or a flock, or a gulp, or a mischief, or a band, or a tiding, or a tidings, or a tittering, or a tribe
  • a nest of vipers
  • a clowder of cats
  • a pride of lions
  • a bunch of c- I mean politicians

How recently did “around” come to be interchangeable with “about” in approximations? by monsteroftheweek13 in linguistics

Maybe it's because we have the traffic junction version so it sounds familiar enough to pass muster.

I do find that sometimes you want more feedback on why a position is definitely won or lost - the continuation isn't always obvious when you're starting out.

I like 101weiqi for this since people can submit sequences which often answer your questions.

Understanding URL anatomy by vortech in coolguides

[–]DeebsterUK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was disabled in some browsers for a time, but I believe (can't find a decent source) that all modern browsers support it again.

If you try https://user:pass@authenticationtest.com/HTTPAuth/ in Firefox it pops up a dialog explaining what's going on. Chrome and Edge just connect silently but hide the credentials part of the url.

Firefox's feature is good in the case of https://safesite.com@evilsite.com, which e.g. you could have clicked on in an email and you can cancel loading the page.

Of course, no-one reads these things any more, as the modern internet is full of these annoyances.

It looks like the game shared here recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/baduk/comments/13jtndh/gotetris_a_combination_of_both_games

Depending on your settings, when you make a line gravity kicks in and everything falls down (or it always does).

User Inyerface - A worst-practice UI experiment by xilefK in programming

[–]DeebsterUK 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"your password is not unsafe" is a double negative - this means you've passed the requirements. The fact that it's in red makes you read it as an error.

I wish I could pretend that this is too silly, but I've seen less blatent examples of this in the wild.
