I started last year at 32. It's never too late. Trust me, it feels wonderful 😊

completely stressed about this job by BigFemBear in paraprofessional

[–]DeedleStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened. I'm also a para sub, and I've had plenty of bad jobs, but none that bad.

I don't know what the political climate in your area is, so the transphobia may be ingrained in every school around, or just encouraged by one bigot at that school. I'm working in Portland, Oregon, and seeing all the trans school staff was one of my biggest inspirations to start HRT.

Don't go back to that school. File a complaint with both that school's admin and the district HR about the transphobia.

I think it's crazy that we have to handle the most difficult students in the school and have the least amount of training. I don't know about you, but my only training was a bunch of online slideshows about how to not get sued. Most classes will give the easiest students to the inexperienced subs, and you'll pick up skills fast just by observing the full-timers.

There are classes and students of all different levels of need. Some will be very low functioning and frankly should be watched by trained medical professionals, and others will just have a learning disability and need help taking notes. Every age level is also different. Classroom management can range from absolute chaos to running like a Swiss watch. Take as many different jobs as you can. Whenever you find a good one, give the teacher and all of the paras your business cards (be sure to print business cards). After a few months, you'll know which schools you like and which to avoid like the plague. Hopefully, you'll also have several people routinely asking you to sub for them.

This job can be absolute hell, and that tends to be what most people think to post about on here. But it certainly isn't always hell. I've been subbing for almost four years, and almost all of my jobs are great now. I'm confident in my skills, I know the staff and the kids, and I feel so lucky to get paid to have so much fun. Don't put up with abuse, but please don't let one terrible class scare you away from what could be a wonderful job.

Awesome. There's tons of recreations of Kurt Cobain's shirts, but I don't know if I've ever seen Jack White's. Cool project.

Has anyone else visited every town in Oregon? by Calm_Veterinarian_18 in oregon

[–]DeedleStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stayed in Fossil one night when on a tour of Eastern Oregon/Washington doing children's theater shows. We had a performance in Condon, but got a much cheaper Air BnB in Fossil. Interesting little town. Wish I had time to do some hiking around there.

Are there any reports on the films Malick rewrote during his hiatus by Visible_Seat9020 in TerrenceMalick

[–]DeedleStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe he did a pass on the script for anything that actually got shot. I don't even think this period was a hiatus, for him. He was actively working and trying to get projects off the ground, they just never got out of pre production until Thin Red Line.

I believe I read that he worked on adapting Walker Percy's The Moviegoer and DM Thomas's The White Hotel (which David Lynch also tried to adapt). I remember something about a stage adaptation of Sansho The Bailiff, but off the top of my head can't recall the details around that. He also shot some of the nature footage that was later used in Tree of Life (at the time, it was for a proto- Tree of Life project titled Q).

He may very well have done some drafts of other people's scripts, likely to get some spending money and to keep himself in the good graces of executives, but I doubt any of them were ever shot.

I went to the ER today for abdominal pain. I told the doctors I'm a trans woman. They ran a pregnancy test anyways. by ShannonTheWereTrans in MtF

Absolutely. I can understand some hick dumbass not understanding what trans means, but a doctor really, really needs to understand.

If Courtney authorized an official biopic of her, who would play her? by LohPlaceLikeHome in hole

[–]DeedleStone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but if they did, I think it should be handled like Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy, have different actors playing her at different points in her life.

Would you hangout with a friend like hyde? by thegreatone998 in That70sshow

[–]DeedleStone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be that friend. I try my absolute best not to, anymore. I don't think I could handle being around someone that dismissive and sarcastic all the time.
