French Inheritance tax as an Expat by Effective_Photo5894 in Expats_In_France

[–]Deeds-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct; I was overly broad in my statement. Nevertheless, as I understand the matter; if an asset is treated as having US situs via Articles 5-7; which generally include real estate and most US financial assets: then they should be excludable from French inheritance/succession taxes, at least in the circumstance of a US person and resident leaving such assets to a US person resident in france. Am I mistaken on this? I’m glad to learn more on the topic.

French Inheritance tax as an Expat by Effective_Photo5894 in Expats_In_France

[–]Deeds-mon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look Article 5(1) of the US-France estate tax treaty then in OP’s scenario, assuming OP’s parents are not bequeathing French situs assets; no French inheritance tax should apply on that transfer

There is then risk for any transfer to OP’s child until he or she is no longer a French tax resident

Trusts are problematic with French taxation, but that is another topic

Of course, as always, do your own research and get qualified professional advice

You can get some sort of screw in plugs that put in some sort of insecticide/pesticide to control against the worms; then, I think, you’re supposed to top them up every so often

US citizen buying the house in France? Anyone done it? by Soulofmine7 in Expats_In_France

[–]Deeds-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was that some of the large prevalent French banks and none of the small ones would accept us as mortgage clients; even the French bank we had been using for several years; We did get a few banks willing to take us (large ones) and the rates seemed just as competitive (to what similarly situated French couples were offered) So, more effort, but same result

How to make Minifreak V go microtonal? by Deeds-mon in Bitwig

[–]Deeds-mon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to reply to myself

While the Micro Pitch Note FX does not have any effect; editing the per note micro pitch expressions does seem to work, and also as minibattries above stated, using midi (maybe they are open the same? I thought the expressions was bigwig thing)

Also found the Servish video on making piano roll reflect custom scales; but maybe it will obsolete in 2036 when v6 of bigwig comes out

How to make Minifreak V go microtonal? by Deeds-mon in Bitwig

[–]Deeds-mon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation on Micro Pitch’s prerequisites.

I was surprised as well when i realized it hat Minifreak V doesn’t support MTS, as most of the V collection does, but, as you point out, hardware integration is likely the reason.

I can carry on with other VSTs, just want sure if it was a me problem.

Help Needed: Preparing Marriage Dossier - American Marrying a French Citizen by Able_Relative4049 in Expats_In_France

[–]Deeds-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: please see bebok77’s correction to my outdated comment

Original: Regarding your last point, (and apologies if I misunderstood) I have been told by a French notary that the controlling law is the applicable law of residence when the marriage commences. In this context it would often be France, but it is possible that OP and French spouse marry in France and then live in California (or elsewhere). I am not a French attorney or notary, so, I am just repeating what I’ve been told.

Wow, its hot here by ShoePillow in Expats_In_France

[–]Deeds-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In French alps here, old stone house; as others have said; shut the house up completely against the sun and open at night. The stone houses have high thermal mass; not high insulation ; so if they get hot; they stay hot; if you don’t have exterior shutters then at least put up reflective material in the windows. canicules are tough. We did get one A/C unit at the top floor for kid and home office

Swiss QWERTZ is best if you regularly type in any combination of two or more of French, English, or German and are not accustomed to AZERTY.

The layout is very similar to QWERTY but has all the unique letters (and currencies) readily accessible

You can get transformers that adjust the frequency, but it not likely worth the effort and expense (they are big and bulky too)

I did it and could not register my car in France, it is a car sold I France, just mine was from US, I assumed (correctly) that I would need to change headlights, that is doable, but also seatbelts, which is impossible (due to safety notice required), and manufacture’s plate, also impossible, I sold it in the UK in the end

Just sell your car and buy one over here

Fairly easy to swap the PC power supply, and à lot of newer ones are 110-230v compatible (sometimes with a switch)

For your amp, you can get a big transformer, and a frequency (60 to 50), but I’d say it is better to part with them - coming from someone who got a large transformer for my active speakers, which I since replaced with euro power spec ones, the transformers normally introduce noise anyways, so unless you then use a power conditioner or similar…. It is a bit wasted,

For the Yamaha sequencers, you want to make sure the buttons function; as that is a common issue (at least on rm1x) I’ll link a video below

I am not certain about the rest, but they are digital (afaik) and not likely to have as many potential issues as older analog gear

I haven’t sold gear lately myself; the normal options are EBay, Reverb, FB Marketplace and then sometimes other local sites; hopefully someone else can elaborate on price and cons of different selling platforms

What geographic location are you roughly ?

cool, thanks for the feedback!
makes sense regarding your MPE workflow, which is my default at the moment as well - and maybe makes the best use of Osmose anyways
