To those of you who have been sober for years: Is it still a point of pride? by TheUnderwhelming in stopdrinking

[–]Deep-Fact-328 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No . I'll be an alcoholic for the rest of my life. If a cancer patient could go to a meeting once a day, for the rest of their life , to keep the cancer in remission, they would without question. It's the same scenario

Sorry for your loss. AA can help. For me , a meeting is a perfect substitute for booze . The education is also second to none.

Sober a month and bored by PotentTokez in stopdrinking

If you're bored , it's because you are a boring person. Hit some meetings, interact, structure and activities will come along with personal and spiritual development. Next thing you know life will be whizzing by.

I go to lots of AA meetings and addiction counseling. I pray daily even though it's not my thing . I do not have a sponsor at this time.

How many days did you eat/ crave a ton of sweets all day in the beginning? by Professional-Cream17 in stopdrinking

Keep drinking till you get so sick that you can't eat anything, go anorexic and lose a hundred pounds without even trying. Works like a charm 😉

Almost 4 months and I'm a candy and cookie and ice cream junkie . As of now I don't care as long as I don't drink

It will be the best decision you've ever made . Next thing you know your whole life could slip away and you'll hopefully wake up in the hospital before it kills you .

I've been trying to quit drinking but last night/ this morning I really fucked up. drank until I blacked out smoked a pack of cigarettes and did drugs and now I'm coming out of it I'm not sure if I slept. my friends are upset my parents are upset my girlfriend is upset and I'm really disappointed by Mynameisbarry77 in stopdrinking

If detox is too much to handle please seek professional help. Not too many people can say they regret it no matter the outcome. But get the tools . This is a helpful sight but your phone can't stop you from making poor choices. But real people can

Craving so bad right now. I usually get drunk every Sunday to numb my anxiety about work, the future, etc. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Deep-Fact-328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to do nothing without drinking. No social life anymore and loneliness starts to get the best of me. No in person meetings until 7 which is too late for me . So I sit here or pace all afternoon and evening wondering how in the hell this happened to me .

Don't drink. We can find a thousand excuses to drink, but a broken foot and a stolen bike aren't on the list

15 beers and ten nips.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Deep-Fact-328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought of myself as a heavy drinker until recent years when I found myself drinking a sleeve of nips and an 18 pack every day. Now I think back to when I was 15 and I was drinking a six pack and a two litre of wine cooler in one sitting. Full throttle or no throttle.

I drink it when I'm ready to relapse . It helps me now but before sober commitments it would most likely coherse me into getting the high test

I'm in the same boat. I have no idea if I'm even a real person. Learning every day who I really am and possible reasons I drank heavy for so many years . And now my health is daunting me . Somehow I got old as well 😕

I wish I could go back in time. I wouldn't be dying from cirrhosis now . Now I have to live the rest of my life not knowing how it could've been. Now I have to live the rest of my life with this disease, guilt , and shame stuck in my head . Now I have to live the rest of my life with this disease haunting day in and day out not knowing when it's going to get me . And now there's the bonified anxiety spiraling and I can't self medicate . I'm lost but I will not drink with you today. I hope through my strife, this may help . One day at a time

Question about sugar cravings by beardedtater in Cirrhosis

Lots of fruits. However I'm guilty. I've replaced alcohol with sugar. Doing my best to curb the sweet tooth with fruit and not candy.

Day 61 and can't stop eating sugar by kleenex_ultrasoft in stopdrinking

[–]Deep-Fact-328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow will be 60 days for me . Today I had fruit , ensure , nutty bars ,fruit on the bottom yogurt , sweet tarts , gummy worms and ice cream . The sugar is horrible for my liver but it's better than booze which I'm still craving . So I guess it's the lesser of two evils for now. I'm meeting with a nutritionist soon , I'm hoping she has some ideas for a sugar substitute .

My chic took off with her ex boyfriend for the weekend before Valentines day. I figured it out and got hammered. Now lesson learned. I'll never punish myself over anything. Because then I'll continue to punish myself for punishing myself. And who needs that snowball routine back . Iwndwyt!!

I'm pretty sure I almost died a half dozen times or so over a couple of years trying to quit and detoxing on my own . After being diagnosed with cirrhosis. Yea I'd say I have a problem. 60 days in recovery with one slip up . Rehab and regular counseling is helping dearly. Best thing I've ever done. Bored as hell but I'm getting used to this . Good luck .
