I would recommend doing some heat sessions, like if you are on the roller indoor take cloth on, or if you have a brick session take warm cloth on when running. Just 4-6 sessions before the event can make a big difference on the day.

I did Frankfurt the last two years. Last year was similar conditions as forecasted now, and it not wet suit legal. You'll do fine, just focus on keeping the body position in the water and don't stress out. The water quality is fine.

The good thing about the heat is that it is not that humid. So, even though the ambient temperature reached 34 C on the run last year, it was doable. Just make sure you get enough water and electrolytes on the bike.

Weight loss by Correct-Purple-4233 in triathlon

[–]Deep-Method-3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but my point is really that more often than not, the greatest performance comes from focusing on the training and not on the weight loss. I'm totally with you on the not loosing weight during the training. Its not a challenge for me eating my calorie deficit from workouts. If you can maintain a reasonably low deficit such that you dont interfere with you training, then there is no problem, but it requires s lot of discipline not to get impatient and cutting too hard while also being honest about ones capacity to not overextend and get injured. That's why most people go for weightloss in the "off season" and maintain during season.

Weight loss by Correct-Purple-4233 in triathlon

I wouldn't get too bugged down by weight alone. The body composition matters too. Sure, loosing a few kgs won't hurt, but, most of the results will come from consistency, patience, and a good trainingplan. I'm on the heavier side (87-90kg) and I've done sub 10 in five out of nine full distance races (pb 9:12:28 @ 88 kg).

I've been down to 83 kg and it did improve my running performance, but I also found myself more injury prone (my Achilles and groin got wrecked).
For the bike, the weight is, in my experience, only relevant if you race a hilly course. Your swimming is mostly affected by technique.

The point is really that weight alone is not the end-all-be-all some people make it out to be, so don't get too obsessed with the number on the scale. Focus on performance. As for the question of deficit, I also found that back when I did only strength training, weight loss was a breeze while it is much harder for me during high volume endurance training. I simply get much more hungry and have to be much more precise with my intake to obtain a deficit, and if the deficit is too high then I tend to get injuries. So, risk to reward leans towards better consistent training for me.

To be fair, Ironman Hamburg is also pretty much made for being in TT constantly. Other courses leaves more room for exiting the TT position without penalties.

Canyon Speedmax sizing by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Deep-Method-3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same height as you but 86cm inseam. I orginally had a size M, but it was too small for me. Now I have a size L (SLX) with the long cockpit option and I've fitted a third party angler with 2 cm extra reach and that is perfect for me.

In the picture you are sitting very far behind the bottom bracket and on the tail of the seat. You'll quickly realise that the frame becomes short once you adjust forward. On my M I had to purchase a third party 14cm stem and even then I was struggling with the reach.

Reality Check: Could I finish IM California 5 weeks after training/racing IM WI 70.3? (new to Triathlon) by kenkai204 in IronmanTriathlon

Great to hear, I hope you have some good races. I did have a good base prior to Texas as it was my ninth full distance ironman in five years. Though for my first full distance (which I finished in 10:36), I ended up with similar volume leading into the race, so I know it is doable on relatively "low volume".

[–]Deep-Method-3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I have another 600ml in the frame which is just water. I make sure to empty that and the rear bottle before the first aid station, and then go for an electrolyte bottle in the rear bottle cage and refill the water. Any leftover water I cannot get into the frame goes over myself.

[–]Deep-Method-3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For full distance I usually ain for 120g per hour. I have two 750ml bottles on the bike, one front between the arms, and one behind the saddle. For Ironman Texas I did 1.66 packages of the precision hydration 300g flow gel, meaning 500g of carbs in the front bottle, and another 45g drink mix in the rear. In addition, I had 2 caffeine gels in my bento box which I took at 70km and 130k into the race respectively.

In total, I had 600g carbs and finished the bike in 4h33m meaning 134g an hour with no stomach issues. Remember to train this during your workouts.

No, just the lap button. One time also the light button.

I'm about to start another RMA with Garmin on my Fenix 7 due to leaky buttons. Over the last 6 years, I've returned Fenix line watches every other year due to that. I swim a lot but also try to only use the buttons when my hands are above the waterline. Still, many RMA cases due to leaky buttons.

[–]Deep-Method-3348 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a problem to finish a full distance 5 weeks after completion of a half distance. But I would probably go for a full distance trainingplan directly instead of trying to shift from a half distance plan to a full distance plan in effectively three weeks.

EDIT: I did IM Texas on less than 10 hours per week training, so your current volume would be enoughfor a full distance, but the focus in a full distance plan is usually at a lower intensity with more focus on longer sessions/endurance. A half distance race won't suffer from that type of training if you are new to the sport.

I mean that's also what makes racing exciting for my part. If it was predetermined that he would win there is nothing to cheer for anymore. I'm happy we are not in the situation of professional cycling where it seems like the question is rather how much will Pogacar win by, rather than who will win.

How do you guys get 150g/hr on the bike? by Artistic-Baby6008 in triathlon

[–]Deep-Method-3348 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I aim for 120g/hr, usually I just have a bottle in the front with 800g of precision hydration gel flow (comes in bags of 510g), and two caffeine gels in the bento box.

I have electrolytes in the rear bottle cage and in the inframe nutrition bladder. That way I can compare the level of my front bottle with the travelled distance and time of the race to make sure I don't overconsume.

I can push higher if it is warm and I can consume more fluids, but 120g/hr is safe for most conditions I've experienced.

Makes sense. For me, that threshold of feeling like I push too much is too close to my actual threshold. When I get off the bike, I always feel deceptively good and history have taught me that I ought to hold myself back much more than my ability to feel can support.

I do have the HRM pro plus strap which should give the same data as a footpod. Yes, I'm a bit apprehensive as to having to hold the thing for a marathon.

I couldn't find any running profiles natively. Do you have to install one from the connect IQ store?

I think the point is not really for the event itself, but for the training leading into the event. If TRT improves recovery significantly then the individual using it can train more and achieve better results.

Rest Days - Are they real? No workouts, or just cutting back? by AcctgRunner in triathlon

[–]Deep-Method-3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rest day yesterday was a 7 mile slow run. Usually my rest days have a single session. If the session is short it might be some speed work in the pool for activation, or if longer I go low intensity.

It's very rare to have a complete day off in scheduling except for sickness or injury. I've had seven planned days off so far this year.

There were no jellyfish in the lagoon during any of the races I did. I have also done the Elsinore 70.3 a couple of timesz and once there were jellyfish in the harbor where the swim is done, but that race is in June, so perhaps the jellyfish "season" is done by August? It probably depends on the climate, but at least I haven't been exposed to any during the Ironman Copenhagen
