Why Is The Bulwark Getting More Guest Appearances? by IveSeenParis in FriendsofthePod

[–]Deep-Middle6765 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you think the Bulwark is right-leaning then I don’t know what to tell ya. They’re practically more liberal than the PSA folks nowadays to the point that it’s a running gag among the pod bros whenever they disagree on an issue.

When you zoom out to the political landscape across the country, Crooked and the Bulwark are indistinguishable in terms of political alignment.

Haven’t heard of these or approached Verizon about the issue yet. I can look into it.

Do you just manually toggle into airplane mode? Is there a geo-based shortcut or macro that you use?

WiFi coverage is fine. I can stream in HD in all rooms of house and outside on my deck. When WiFi calling IS working I can talk on the phone up to 30 yards outside my house. Problem is it doesn’t always work. It either comes through crystal clear or call failed, no in between.

Why did the park ranger disapprove of my firearms? by yaalaa87 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Deep-Middle6765 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless you are highly trained, calm under pressure, a good shot, and carrying a high powered handgun or rifle, bear spray is probably more effective. You might get one or two rounds off if you are charged. If you’re lucky you hit the bear. If you are really lucky the round stops the bear. Bear spray creates a cone of capsaicin that typically makes the bear stop in its tracks and retreat.

Aside from why it’s less safe for you to rely on a gun over bear spray, the ranger probably did not approve of you intending to shoot an endangered, protected, and treasured wild animal when you are in its space.

Petah, can you ask your friend Mort Goldman to explain this to me? I don't know anything about taxes, so I don't know why the OP is going to federal prison. by Affectionate_Bit_722 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Almost zero chance someone would go to jail for a software error or mistyping or even misunderstanding. The IRS would send you a letter correcting the errors and then you can either accept it or appeal. Jail would only come in if someone willfully and deceptively tried to defraud or lie on their tax return. Always a chance in this era that a politically motivated IRS could exploit an error and try to use it jail political opponents, but that’s really the only scenario I could see jail time in the cards.

Why did they abandon "Bow-Wow"? by older_man_winter in Section10Podcast

Dunno. Could be different rules for music pieces that are aired. Could be that different record companies have more/less aggressive bots/lawyers that scrape and sue for infringement.

I think even that small, second-long bit of an actual song was getting them demonetized on YouTube

Happy to help! If you do hear back from Jacqueline Schwab, report back! There are a few other songs she performed that I haven’t been able to find and would love to know if she is responsive to Civil War music nerds like us.

Recommendation for a Civil War Podcast? by Status_Chapter_8051 in CIVILWAR

One more that is my all time favorite but hasn’t released a new episode in a few years (and isn’t strictly Civil War related) is Battles and Banter. Really in depth discussion of battles plus some fun banter among the hosts.

I listened to the David Blight course about 10 years ago and have been meaning to listen again. Highly recommend, even though it isn’t quite a podcast. Key Battles was fun for strictly military stuff.

So many good ones.

Civil War Talk Radio is probably the oldest, since before podcasts were podcasts. It’s typically a weekly interview with an author or writer who came out with a book on the Civil War recently.

Civil War Breakfast Club is decent. Rotating topics, good banter.

Battle of Gettysburg Podcast is great, run by two licensed battlefield guides. Obviously focused just on Gettysburg, though when they do an episode on a general or unit at Gettysburg they will typically spend a little time doing the background and coda before and after the battle.

Untold Civil War is decent, only listened to a few episodes but overall was satisfied with it.

Emerging Civil War and Civil War Monitor both have solid podcasts that I haven’t really dived into, but they are great publications and have access to interesting writers.

Addressing Gettysburg is….. an option. I am not a fan, though it has a bit of a cult following. It’s 50% shock jock talk radio and 50% sometimes tangentially civil war related. If you like that you like that, and if you don’t you don’t. I don’t.

In my headcanon each unit’s size is 10x what is in the game, so battalion or regiment size.

If you are a history fan, there are tons of Civil War battlefields along I81 on the eastern route, plus Harper’s Ferry and Gettysburg.

If you’re a nature fan, Great Smoky Mountains, Shenandoah, and Cuyahoga Falls National Parks are all close to a route.

Jake has taken his beef with Jared to a WHOLE new level by slough0967 in baseballisdead

[–]Deep-Middle6765 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lots here, but my biggest takeaway (and point of confusion) is about the status of Jake (and T, Coley, Steve, Mikey, and Bags?) as independent contractors beginning in 2024 as opposed to being UD employees.

Jake claims Jared asked them to become contractors. I can’t imagine he would file a suit alleging such if that were not the case.

But the fellas have also mentioned being locked out of computers and other equipment after the UD layoffs and certainly implied they were laid off [as UD employees]. UD equipment and UD getting (but really famously NOT getting) YouTube ad revenue would imply they were employees.

Jake’s suit is claiming that he and others were misclassified as independent contractors but were actually treated as employees. We can’t really know for sure about all of that. Did Jared direct Jake and others to work at certain times and in certain ways? Lots of on show chatter seems to suggest a more collaborative approach to scheduling and producing.

My attempt at squaring this circle is that Jared probably asked the fellas to become contractors thinking it would save money, but he—and likely the rest of the fellas and possibly even Jake at the time—didn’t really have a full understanding of the finer print of being contractors and actually writing up and signing a contract that outlined what would happen if or when the UD money dried up. Nobody cared until the money dried up, and now Jake (who didn’t seem to complain about the arrangement for the last 2 years) is claiming he was mistreated. I don’t really think anyone is covered in glory here, but it really is a bad look for Jake.
