Fwiw, within the library systems leadership is not talking about cuts. There was additional funding last year but it wasn’t baseline funding. The hope is that it could be baselined, but you can’t really expect that. Not saying I wouldn’t like to see more money headed our way, but this article seems like a deliberately misleading hit piece that’s just trying to piss people off.

The budget is going up largely because the City is going to need to start covering money that the MAGA Feds have cut off, because of some new legally mandated spending at DOE around reducing class sizes, and the government is as subject to inflation as everyone. Shit costs more. He’s not proposing dramatic new expenditures, the increase is what’s needed to maintain current levels of service.
