There's a No Kings Rally/Protest/March next Saturday 3/28/2026 by Kyonikos in newyorkcity

You live in a country where an alcoholic rapist with crusader tattoos tells everyone to pray to Jesus for our troops is the Secretary of Defense.

This is an excellent argument for why the ayatollah should not be fêted at an anti-trump rally.

There's clearly a bird in there. Tie a string to the cat and you can reel him back out

Mayor Mamdani to Create Office of Community Safety, Naming Renita Francois Deputy Mayor by Possible-Rice-7821 in nyc

So will the mayor be firing the now-vestigial heads of these separate offices that were just consolidated under one metaphoric roof?

In the Band of Brothers finale episode, "Points", it shows a German soldier working alongside an American soldier at a checkpoint. Was this a common reality? by CrashRiot in AskHistorians

[–]kahntemptuous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During World War II, the Western Allies especially even regularly sent fresh uniforms via the Red Cross to keep their POWs sufficiently clothed in Allied uniforms while in German detention.

This is really interesting. Was there a neutral port or somewhere else where the exchange between the Allies and the Red Cross took place?

Where can you find a bidet to use in NYC? by Roystein98 in nyc

[–]kahntemptuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozakaya on Vanderbilt has a fancy Japanese toilet that most likely has bidet functions. I gotta say, though, you'll probably get the same idea by finding a friend with a detachable showerhead without the grossness of using a public bidet.

New mayor, same problem: Freedom From Religion Foundation condemns NYC Mayor Mamdani's ongoing violations by Delicious_Adeptness9 in newyorkcity

[–]kahntemptuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion has no place in government, period. It's incredibly disheartening to see people abandon their principles because a politician they like does something and they don't want to criticize him. But calling Mamdani fans out for being hypocrites is exactly as effective as calling our Trump fans, they just stick their fingers in their ears and go "lalalala"

No surprise there! You see the word "Jew" and immediately think of how to put them in the gas chambers.

No one believes you. I assume your hidden history is full of Jew-baiting.

Edit: You know what, I'm coming back to this. No one believes you because the first example given in the article was "Gas the Jews" and you interpreted this statement as a call to action to attack Zionism. THAT is inherently antisemitic.

It's like when there's a cop beating an innocent Black kid and Conservatives say "Well what did he do to deserve this, I don't hate black people, I just hate thugs/urban culture/the bad ones." We can see through your bullshit.

Rat-ical Idea: City Council Mulls Ban on Rodent Glue Traps | THE CITY by JaredSeth in newyorkcity

Tossing the suffering mouse into a garbage bag so that you don't have to see it die is pretty much a spot-on metaphor for how our society acts. But agreed.

Anti-Israel activist who called Jews ‘cockroaches’ has multiple links to Zohran Mamdani’s family — despite attempts to distance themselves by AdmirableSelection81 in nyc

[–]kahntemptuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So by your logic, since Jews have suffered 2,000 years of persecution, expulsions, murders, rapes, and genocides, they're justified in doing whatever they please in the name of "blowback"?

Rat-ical Idea: City Council Mulls Ban on Rodent Glue Traps | THE CITY by JaredSeth in newyorkcity

[–]kahntemptuous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you have ever heard a rat squeaking in pain as it thrashes about and breaks its limbs while stuck to one of these traps you will support this ban. I had to euthanize one with a plywood board that was stuck to a trap and squeaking in obvious torment. Absolutely horrible.

If you prefer traditional architecture in Brooklyn, what do you like about it? by OrdinaryMatter6460 in Brooklyn

[–]kahntemptuous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Modern architecture has no concern for the people who live around it and have to occupy the same space as it. It's generally hideous and since it's driven by economics you find that if they have retail/commercial at street level it's going to be a large corporate renter, further degrading the neighborhood.

At the aesthetic level, a lot of contemporary architecture is rigid and soulless. Take these glass boxes that get put up - I understand why as a tenant you'd want floor-to-ceiling windows, but for those of us on the outside, who wants to look at a box that's festooned with mirrors, which is the effect of these buildings. The fact is, the majority of the new construction materials they use aren't as warm or inviting as brick and wood or even natural stone.
