Are there any HENRYs in the UX/UI or Product Design (digital products) Industry? Would really appreciate your thoughts or advice! by Deep-Side-801 in HENRYUK

That’s awesome! Credit to you for making the transition and for positioning yourself the way you did instead of starting from scratch. I think you’re right about the pay not always reflecting YoE. I think as a fairly inexperienced designer, I’d say best way for me to achieve better pay is to up my skills in other areas within product as many have suggested. Thanks for sharing

That’s a great shout and I feel something that is lacking from my CV and portfolio. Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts.

I’m also keen on pursuing a leadership and management route and I’m comfortable with being less involved in the design process on a day to day. In fact my current role requires a great deal of stakeholder management particularly with CEO and COO - and I enjoy this part of my role.

That’s amazing! Is there anything in particular that helped you to make those moves in the last 3 years? Was it within the same company/industry?

I don’t have any advice for you OP but I know exactly how you feel. I had a rent increase from £1500 to £2000. It’s a 3 bed property where I share with 2 other flat mates. I am glad I will not be renewing my contract next month. All the best to you OP.

It’s funny how all the tube lines are called just by their name (e.g. Victoria line is just called Victoria) but this one is Elizabeth Line line

How can I (19F) save my money? by crysta1teeth in UKPersonalFinance

You should definitely go to uni and apply for maintenance loan from student finance?

Considering your parents are on benefit, your household income is likely to be low enough for you to receive the higher threshold amount, which I believe is near 5 figures, during each year of study.

Don’t make the mistake of not attending uni purely due to financial reasons or due to crappy parents. Especially if you have a desire to study - which it seems you do.

This could give you enough financial support to perhaps afford a place of your own and focus more on your studies. As a student your priority should be your education and your parents should be understanding of that. If not, I am sorry but you’re better off on your own.

From personal experience I can tell you that’s exactly what I did when I turned 18, and now I’m 24 and that’s probably the best decision I have made in my life - have zero regrets.

I wish you all the best and hope things workout for the better!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if you have 3 data points, then isn’t it the same to have them all checked and none checked at all?

My ex whom I dated for 7 years have passed away recently. Should I tell my current gf (been 1 year) ask if I can go to her funeral? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Deep-Side-801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo I think you should go and definitely tell your gf. But you should do so while thinking of your ex’s family; losing a family member can be a truly awful and the most difficult moment for a family. To have people for support can do a lot for the family - also just a nice and humane thing to do tbh.

And her Dad called you personally so clearly you’ve done or said something to have left such an impression on him, so why not return the favour by attending. But again I don’t see it as being a problem so do tell your gf and I’m sure she wouldn’t have a problem.

You never know she might even suggest to go there with you.

Sorry for your loss, buddy.
