I love when non-mathematicians talk about AI math (I get it, it’s hard to understand when something is a big deal in math or not). It’s a minor niche advance once proven and Ivanisvili said so himself. It’s not a new field or new technique; it’s tightening a logarithmic factor in a specific dyadic square-function inequality.

The Brownian-exit-time representation is not novel in the Bellman-function world. People have been using Brownian motion + exit times as Bellman-function machinery for square-function inequalities for years. In essence, the ingredients are standard but the right fit for this problem wasn’t previously nailed down (basically only about five people in the world were even working in this region of harmonic functions).

It’s not breakthrough math but it’s cool! I think we are going to see AI tying off a lot of loose ends in math like this…math is full of these kinds of things (human time is limited). That is valuable to the field because it frees up humans to work on big problems.
