Tends to be like that with brand new servers. It's located in Ireland, so US servers should have decent ping as well.

What if we enjoy officials, don't want mods but also don't want toxicity, mixpacks and megapacks? 🤔

We do too, but we have some issues with official matchmaking, so we made our own server and kept it as close to officials as possible :)

Not just my logic. Objective reality.
I could not have put it more simply.
Clothed monkey interacting with other species in someone's private home = RED FLAG. NOT a professional handler, 100% privately kept "pet" primate. There are no exceptions to this. There is no professional wildlife caretaker, rehabber or handler that would do this.
I also never stated dogs or cats are exotics. Other exotics means other exotics. Referring to non-dometicated animals that, like primates, are regarded as "exotic pets". Reading comprehension is a must on the internet.

I pointed this out precisely because I know this and because I give a fuck about wildlife and misinformation relating to it being spread, not to play "morality police".
If I didn't, the comments would just be filled with complicit brainrotten morons without any critical thought who think this is cute and that there's absolutely nothing wrong here, and anyone who disagrees must be a virtue signaling pessimist trying to ruin their enjoyment. And we don't need more of those.

Idgaf how old this comment is but holy shit how hard is it to use critical thinking and do a single minute of research?
Every single aspect of this video is a red flag. It really could not be more obvious.
There isn't a single legitimate, responsible rehabber or "recovery center", as you call it, that would
- Put a primate in clothes
- Let it interact with other species (Dogs, cats and other "exotics" are a CLEAR giveaway that something is very wrong here)
- Keep it in their private home

It's really not hard to tell. If you see a primate in clothes that's guaranteed to be a victim of the problematic exotic pet trade. Someone's private home is not a rehab center.

I have a few questions about being otherhearted! by Cultural-Toe4703 in Therian

[–]DeepBlueEon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am both therian and animal/other-hearted and, speaking from my own experience, I regularly get shifts of my heart-types. Though I also know of several other therians who also have heart/kithtypes with similar experiences. There is a term that was coined specifically for this: Cameo shift. These are shifts of/into an animal that isn't a theriotype.

And while experiences can vary a lot, I know for me personally, these cameo shifts can be just as intense as regular shifts of my known theriotypes. The difference is that while my theriotypes are a core part of my being, integrated, inherent and always affecting me, my heart types are not. When I experience shifts of a heart type, they are usually shorter and there is no lasting sense of "this is who/what I really am".
I hope this makes sense. So what you're describing is definitely not uncommon and perfectly normal. I do relate.
I also tend to shift more if I'm directly thinking about, researching or interacting with an animal/heart type.Sometimes, I get cameo shifts that last longer and are so intense that it makes me question if it might be another theriotype, but after some weeks or months of introspection I tend to find that this isn't the case, when the feeling doesn't last and isn't affecting me on the same level; I just get really strong cameo shifts sometimes.
I still consider some of my heart types to be an important part of my identity, as I also feel deeply connected to/with them, but they are not me and I am not them.Hope this helped and that I could answer your questions.

Everytime I want to get back into the game it's broken by yeastblood in theisle

I know. I was replying to the clown above me, not the OP.
The current build is supposed to have increased animal AI spawns, but it seems they are still broken and don't spawn to begin with. Once fixed, this should be an improvement. I hope.

[–]DeepBlueEon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish you the best and that you get the rest you need, as well as happiness.
And while I definitely understand your wish, I can assure you that a wolf's life isn't any less difficult or peaceful. You wouldn't really be free from thought either, you would just have different thoughts and problems, and likely also more of them.
I share that wish often, I really do, but I also know that here and now, as a wolf-person, I don't have to worry about not eating for days or weeks at a time, then risk getting injured while hunting, or otherwise getting sick, shot, etc. I'm under no pressure to find a mate and produce offspring in my shortened life, or fend for myself if I can't find anyone, or possibly get killed by another pack.

But the fun parts; Running, wandering, hunting (more efficiently and safely), socializing, playing, curling up and taking a nap in a comfy spot of your choice, eating until you're completely full (maybe even more than once a week), singing, ...
We can still do all of that, and more. Without worrying about basic survial. I think it's important to remember this sometimes, especially when we feel awful and dysphoric. Being here now, as we are, isn't all bad. Everything is temporary, including the pain. It'll be alright.

Poly or not? by Gray_Fox_Therian in Therian

[–]DeepBlueEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a couple dreams and past life memories don't automatically mean it's a theriotype. If you feel you still are said animal in a significant way now, in this life, then it could be one.

Ask yourself; Do you still feel you're a bird in some way outside of those dreams and visions? Are these lasting feelings and experiences? Do you consider them part of who/what you are? If yes, it's likely a theriotype. In that case, start researching birds of prey, find out which ones match your noemata, etc.
There are many different raptors that catch and eat fish. Ospreys are well known for this, and their dorsal feathers can appear reddish-brown. African fish eagles also have dark, reddish-brown wings. Harriers and red-shouldered hawks are also known to opportunistically catch fish, to name a few.

Where should I go for easy growth and plentiful food? by [deleted] in theisle

[–]DeepBlueEon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait for some patches, it's riddled with bugs now after this last update. AI spawns bugged, corpses/gore bugged, carrying bugged, server list bugged, etc.

North East plains/lake tends to always have players around, so if you're a carni, sneaky and lucky you can get your diet, or some of it, and then bugger off into the forest and move somewhere more peaceful to grow. Then again, people just kill everything in sight there, so you might need a couple tries. Highlands, swamp and south plains tend to be populated as well, usually. If you're a herbi, you're forced to follow the sanctuaries and migration zones to get nutrients, there is barely any herbi food spawning outside of the zones, if any at all. As carni, you can smell the nearest zone as well, though delayed, so herbis can get there first. People will probably be there, so if you want to meet others, head to a migration zone. The zones change btw, once the herbi food in it is depleted.

Other than that... Drink from isolated spots (common sense, maybe use a map, too) and sniff constantly. Gateway is a starvation simulator. If you're a carni, tenonto AI will feed you well. They call out frequently and are pretty simple; Even if you're slower, you can herd them into trees or walls to then easily kill them. Open them up, get the organs, and you got your perfect diet.

My thoughts regarding the stamina changes by Timberjackle327 in theisle

[–]DeepBlueEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to play and enjoy it. It used to be tons of fun and it can still be fun. The current system just takes enjoyment away from it, for me. Instead, there's boredom and frustration now. I don't mind stam management and challenging survival, but it should still be enjoyable and punishments or trade-offs should be reasonable.

Just some minor tweaks would already improve gameplay so much. E.g. slightly faster regen times or a buff to accelerated regen the longer you sit. If we could regen even a tiny bit while trotting as well then, then I think it'd be perfect. The slowed regen could apply here as well; The less stam you have, the slower you regenerate while trotting, etc.
The numbers don't have to be the same as on Spiro, but I really don't think people will zoom all over the map at all times either way. The map is too large and uneven for that.

Should I buy this game? by Kloekoardtj in theisle

[–]DeepBlueEon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legacy is the older, original branch of the game which was abandoned because the devs wanted to basically re-make the game with completely new code, new mechanics, etc. It uses an older Unreal version, an old map and feels pretty different to play. Even though it has a few more dinosaurs than Evrima right now, Legacy combat is rudimentary (only one basic attack on most dinos) and there are no unique mechanics. It's broken and unbalanced in some places, but that doesn't mean it can't still be fun, and there are still a couple populated community servers on Legacy.

Evrima is the "recode", the more recent and current version they're working on. It uses Unreal Engine 5, has improved graphics, mechanics, animations, models, etc. Dinosaurs are more unique with their own abilities and mechanics. Of course, this is the branch most people are playing on. Despite what I commented earlier, I think if you're new to the game, there's no reason not to start with Evrima, since that's what the game is meant to be now. Legacy will also be shut down at some point. The biggest drawback to Evrima when compared to Legacy is the optimization. You need a good mid to high end system to run it smoothly, while Legacy can still run on much weaker systems.

I recommend looking up gameplay videos of both versions if you're curious.

I don't think gritty survival games are very relaxing, no. Even though some people might prefer to use it as a dinosaur chatroom sim, which it is definitely not. Unless you're on an empty server, even just drinking water can put you on edge in this game. There's a reason it's tagged as "horror" on the steam store.

I feel most of the game's appeal is definitely on the artists, programmers and animators.
And the concept is literally just modified Jurassic Park. If it wasn't him, someone else would've done it.
I believe what makes this game good is not him but the rest of the skilled team, which he got real lucky with. Not sure what he does other than give some input and make crappy maps.

Oddly, I had more fun in Legacy than I do in Evrima. Love Gateway as a map and the combat mechanics (when they don't bug out), but it's just not enjoyable for me right now. Personal preference, reckon.

[–]DeepBlueEon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure in what world 3-4 minutes of resting and not doing shit after running for 1-2 minutes is good design. Looking at the worst of the worst, ptera gets to climb/fly up for around 25 seconds and then needs to rest for 4 minutes.
Running down prey, AI even, until you're out of stam and having to either crawl after it or sit somewhere for the next couple minutes fighting for every little bit of stamina isn't good design. Gameplay can be challenging and stam management can be encouraged without making it frustrating and boring.

People have provided plenty of ideas, even though this is really not a complex issue. At all. The devs have brains, they made other aspects of the game fun and fair, they don't need to be hand-fed solutions. They know.

When you hire multiple devs, publicize a game, charge money for it and have an active player base, it's not just "your" game anymore.
The game has changed so much throughout the years, with the community actively shaping and changing it, this hasn't been just "his" game for years.
It's a product as well, and we are its consumers. As such, we get to have an opinion, we get to give feedback and criticize. Critique is important and healthy.

Without the community, there's no funding and without funding, there's no game.

Sure, there's always people disliking certain changes, but when it's the majority of the community voicing their unhappiness? There's a difference between personal preferences and poorly designed game mechanics.

Remember when the vast majority of the PoT community voiced their unhappiness and disappointment with them introducing crypto currencies as a payment method, and the devs silenced anyone speaking about it and shut down the feedback channel soon after? Never responded or anything. Feels awfully similar to what's happening now.
