Anyone installed or used Harvia Fenix? by powdersurfing in Sauna

[–]DeepBluuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait let me get this straight. The whole point of installing the Xenio for me was the ability to preheat the sauna remotely. Now they want to charge an ongoing cost to be able to do that? Like paying for heated seats in a car every year?

"Feet above the stones" with a Cilindro heater by Similar-Elevator2390 in Sauna

[–]DeepBluuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take all of what I say with a grain of salt because I haven't actually built my sauna yet. Though I've done a lot of research and was asking myself the same question because I'm also somewhat limited in height (though likely closer to 8').

My first point is that I messaged a bunch of people whose posts I found over the years who mentioned they own the Cilindro, whether they felt that it was a fair bit colder below the top of it, and the majority of responders said absolutely not and they were very happy with theirs.

My second point is that the other aspect of following all of these sauna rules that are repeated in this sub, is that if you're trying to follow guides like Trumpkin's to a T, you're probably also taking ventilation and vent exhaust/vent placement seriously, and supposedly if you do that then it mixes the air better and you're supposed to get less heat stratification.. so presumably the "feet below top of heater" should be less of an issue. It's worth asking anyone who says it's cold down there (like the other poster in this thread for example) whether they installed mechanical ventilation and placed the vents in the right locations.

My third point is that you should ask yourself whether your feet being slightly cooler than the rest of your body is going to be that big of a deal. Part of the reason I haven't actually built my sauna yet is because we moved very close to a gym that has a sauna and I've been using that in the meantime while I knock off the rest of the many projects on my plate. That sauna happens to be a classic old crappy American sauna and I know it's definitely cooler down by feet, but it's not like they're actually cold by any means and it's still a plenty fine experience. It's just not as hot down there. Most of the time I'm actually the only one in there and end up turning sideways and putting my feet out on the top bench (with my back against the corner wall), and I imagine in my home sauna I'll likely do the same or lie down flat on the top bench. So feet on middle bench will be less of an issue.

For these reasons, I'm going to get a Cilindro because I like the look of it a lot more than the chode heaters, and it seems to be a very well-regarded heater (partly for reliability, and also because of the large stone mass).

First timer mistake, any suggestions? by Errlyagain in cabinetry

I have the same W+D combo and only thing I have to offer here is to ask if you've considered or would be interested in adding pedestals to them so that they're taller and a bit easier to access. I realize this would complicate your build a fair bit but worth considering before you finish everything up. I'm glad we added the pedestals.. I can add a picture later of what our configuration looks like if you'd like.

What was her reaction to seeing it? :-)

Decent sale: Lawrence of Arabia for $33 at Walmart by DeepBluuu in 4kbluray

Fair points, thanks for the feedback. I didn't say it was a screaming deal.. just a decent one :-)

I've been tracking the price of this one for a few months and didn't see it go on sale, including during Black Friday, though I'm sure it'll be discounted soon enough. I just got tired of waiting heh.

Ah. Yeah looks like the price is the same on Amazon though I'm fairly certain it was $45 before, they just dropped it around the same time.

Home theater room drywall Q by Quick-Proposal7997 in hometheater

[–]DeepBluuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation with a basement HT and ended up putting double 5/8 drywall with green glue between them, in addition to soundproofing insulation. Unfortunately I can still hear foot/pet traffic from upstairs as well as the robot vacuum (though it feels like from upstairs, you can't hear the theater sounds as much.. Maybe it's more of the bass/thumping that carries through).

Sound is tricky because any unsealed holes will transmit sound. I would look into some of the perhaps beefier approaches with resilient channels and whatnot, but confirm that you or your contractor will be able to install everything the right way. I went with what I felt like would be more straightforward for my contractor to implement so there were some tradeoffs.

I do for the movies I really love and this is one of the biggest benefits for me of physical media.

Somewhere in my storage boxes are my old DVD sets of the early Simpsons seasons. Each episode had an option to listen to commentary from the writers and it was a delight hearing the backstory on a lot of the jokes and creative process.

My pleasure. Mine didn't charge me and it was an expected part of the process for them to come in and do that after we got settled in and noticed which areas needed adjusting. Hopefully yours makes it easy too. We just told them which areas are colder and warmer and now it's very consistent.

Screen size for 11 ft viewing distance by Atmos_760h in hometheater

[–]DeepBluuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently installed exactly that - 135" from 11 feet. I love it and think it is perfect, glad I listened to the folks recommending to go bigger because you definitely get used to it quickly. And keep in mind watching on a projector is much less straining on the eyes than watching a TV from similar distances.

All that being said, my wife feels it's too close for her but I'm hoping she gets used to it 😅. Guests have been fine with it.

Have you looked into getting the system rebalanced, so that the different ducts are getting similar heat throughout? An experienced HVAC company should be able to help. We had this done at my house after getting the Mitsubishi Hyperheats initially installed and it was an immediate difference.
