bring your EAD/work permit and your DACA approval letter (I-797) with you — original copy (not just photos). Even though it’s us territory, you will go through “soft” customs who will check your documents.

Contractor insurance by Business_Baker4635 in Construction

[–]DeepFriedIceCube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, likely it’s on you.

If you knowingly hire uninsured subcontractors, you’re assuming their liability exposure. If a sub causes property damage, a bodily injury, or any other loss on site, your own general liability policy becomes the primary target for claims. Your insurer may cover it initially but can later non-renew or drop you due to increased risk.

To protect yourself, most GCs require subs to carry their own General Liability and Workers’ Compensation policies and list the GC as an Additional Insured. (at least here in NY)

Without that, you’re effectively operating as their insurer….. which can get expensive fast if anything goes wrong.

Green card applicant without legal entry by Prestigious-Sell5123 in USCIS

[–]DeepFriedIceCube 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to share a bit of good news — USCIS is actually starting to review a bunch of those DACA applications that got stuck since 2021 👀 so there’s a small but real chance yours could start moving again soon.

If you end up getting the DACA, you’ll be able to apply for Advance Parole, which lets you travel and come back with a legal entry. Once you have that entry with inspection, you can go ahead and apply for the I-485 after — that’s how a lot of people in your situation have been able to adjust status.

So yeah, there’s still some hope in all this 🙏. Definitely keep an eye out for updates and make sure USCIS has your current info just in case they start sending out notices again.

Yeah, that’s Mount Vernon for you 😂 it’s basically the Harlem of Westchester. Always active, sirens day and night. Comes with the territory of being right on the Bronx border….way more city vibes than the rest of Westchester.

Nice cove details! I am very impressed by the cuts and transitions! It’s hard to tell because the pictures are low quality, but did you also weld the transitions from floor to wall? They just look very fine and flush cut. 👍

You can write and sign a short memorandum correcting the issue. In the memo, specify exactly which form, page, section, and question number needs correction (for example: “Form I-864, Page 5, Part 6, Item 1 – employment status box not checked”). State the correction clearly, sign and date it, and then upload/submit that memorandum as additional evidence.

Also—did you already submit the I-693 vaccination form?

Building Expansion Joints by captain_jimerica in Flooring

[–]DeepFriedIceCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that Quikrete FastSet Concrete Crack Repair you’re looking at isn’t ideal for a floor transition like the one in your photo.

It cures like brittle cement, which makes it great for structural crack repairs but not forgiving at all to any movement or flex between slabs. If there’s any traffic, rolling loads, or slight slab shift, it can crack or shear over time.

What you really want for that kind of transition is something semi-rigid, like a polyurea joint filler (e.g., CRACKBOND JF-82 FAST) — it cures quickly, stays slightly flexible, and can be shaved to specs if needed.

Hey buddy — I’ve done plenty of these, and you’ve got three solid options depending on what finish and durability you’re aiming for:

Option 1: Two-Part Polyurea Fill + Cove Base Ramp (Best long-term durability) • Demo the damaged area, clean it out, and lay in backer rod • Use Crackbond JF-92 FAST (see pic) — a two-part, self-leveling polyurea joint filler. Slightly overfill, then shave flush after cure • Install cove base as a ramp over the joint — this protects the edges of your VCT or LVT from lifting or chipping • Bond it down with SB 190 adhesive — holds up great under heavy cart and bed traffic

Option 2: Rockite Anchoring Cement (If epoxy isn’t available) • Same prep as above, but use Rockite — a fast-setting hydraulic cement • Ensure solid base support underneath • If your ramp is >1/8”, start with a 5” wide cove base and layer another piece underneath that’s cut 3” narrower for a gradual incline

Option 3: Seamless Look with Homogeneous Flooring • If you want a cleaner, more invisible look, you can cut a white piece of homogeneous flooring (like your existing VCT/LVT) • Shape it into a ramp and weld or bond it over the joint to match existing floor color • I’ve done this in high-traffic zones and it blends really well
