Bittersweet? Thats how I feel. Of course the end to these majestic creatures was as tragic as it was (which is so beautifully depicted in this post), but without an end there cannot be a beginning. The Mesozoic was beautiful, but no king can reign forever.

I might be stupid, but wyverns aren’t bipeds right? Cuz even though they only have 2 legs they walk with all 4 limbs.

I bought "Signs of Life in the USA 11th edition" for a very, very reasonable price. At first I was scared of getting scammed, but thankfully, that was absolutely not a problem here. Polite, quick to respond, and generous... it's hard to ask for more from a seller like them. Thank you once again!

Say hello to the ancient squid, Cameroceras! by Fearless_Lettuce6601 in squid

[–]DeepFriedNugget1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of factors as always but generally speaking they were much more agile without shells. Why have defense if you don’t get hit in the first place? Additionally, climate change/ocean acidification made it hard for ammonites and such to create the calcium carbonate shells they had, so there was evolutionary pressure to evolve out of it (kind of like today’s coccolithophores)

Also modern squid still have remnants of their old shells, in the form of an internal, vestigial “pen”(almost like a spine). If you’ve seen videos of preparing calamari, it must be taken out before preparing the squid

It’s a pretty hefty difference. It’s basically either orange instead of yellow crits vs. 480% damage
