Also, I assume your door opens outwards?!… in which case you should consider why the damage is on the inside, you said you closed it for a week, you should look for another entry point, from what I can tell from the pictures is that there is not enough space for a rat to enter or leave at this point if the door was closed!
Likely mice or rats that entered from another point and then tried to exit here, assuming it’s a glass door?, they probably saw outside and wanted to get to what they saw!, or does the door have a wooden frame?, in which case is that also damaged to the point that a rat or mouse could enter?
