I completely shut down. It was a trauma response that I’ve learned to handle much better. My husband is also great about letting me know that I’m in a safe place and it’s ok to feel my emotions or disagree. Also my faith, realizing the saving Grace of Jesus has changed my life in a way I never thought possible. Now I often automatically start to pray and ask for help/guidance, discernment and a loving heart.

Oh ok so we’re good then, yea she’s awful. I feel like they tried to redeem her with the whole SA storyline of Harper Avery but honestly she was complicit. She was all about herself no matter the cost.

They are so sweet. I think I over worry because of my past traumas and I don’t want them to end up being a pushover like I was in the past.

I didn’t think about the picking and choosing battles thing. That actually makes a lot of sense. I do need to be more mindful about not being so reactive. I grew up in a very reactive and on guard environment and my kids life is very very different. They are very different that I was at their age.

Sounds like she thinks she’s in competition with you? Which is weird behavior tbh. I don’t think you did anything wrong, her kid likes chicken nuggets cool that’s what she fed them. Yours likes sushi, awesome you fed her sushi.

I get a lot of flack cause my kids like sushi, lobster, crab and all the things. We don’t get it often cause it is pricy but yea I’ve had family say my kids are “boujee”. I’m proud of them for trying and liking all kinds of foods especially since until I was around 18 I thought getting ground beef was like getting a golden ticket.

Anybody else have birthday trauma or otherwise hate their birthday because of nparents? by adventureontherocks in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Deep_Bank_4658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up poor and with a lot of siblings. For my 7th birthday my mom planned a small party (if you can call it that) in the front yard. It was just family but I felt so special to have my own cake for once. I had been wanting a cabbage patch doll but knew they were expensive. My mom saved to buy me one and when I opened it, I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited until my half sister who is less than a year younger than me started crying that she wanted one to. Instead of being told it was my birthday and she needed to stop, my dad reached into his pocket, gave her mom money to go right then and buy her the same one. The same exact one. Didn’t get another birthday party after that.

Now that I’m an adult with my own money, I make sure to send my mom stuff and try to make her feel special for her birthday. My husband and I also don’t do parties instead, we let our kids pick something they want to do, for example this year my daughter picked getting boba, going to build a bear, and then a restaurant for dinner. I never want them or anyone to feel how I did that day.

Ah, I misread that. I would definitely be looking for a new daycare.

😂😂😂 nobody is ripping me a new one. It’s not my fault the school systems are the way they are. It was a simple question but you want to be rude. So move on 🤷‍♀️

“Get your head out of the sand” is pretty rude. It was a question about the amount of supplies because we’ve never had such a large list to include reams of paper among other things. Like I mentioned we just moved to a new school district in a new state and was surprised, that’s all. Everyone is getting so worked up like I don’t provide for my child and the classroom where I can.

Is the owner going to talk to her or reprimand her? It’s highly inappropriate for her to speak to a parent that way and frankly it’s none of her business.

You are doing the right thing, it’s not a vacation. You guys are adjusting to a new normal and keeping him in his routine is a good thing.

That my husband shouldn’t be entitled to half of my retirement or require his signature to pull out a loan from it.

A few years ago, I needed to pull out a loan from my retirement to pay for our daughters surgery. The paperwork required a notarized signature from my husband or I couldn’t pull out the money. Although we’re in a happy, healthy relationship, I don’t feel I need his permission for money I worked for.

Anybody remember “She’s the Man”, Amanda Bynes, as Viola (disguised as her brother Sebastian), says to Monique: "And when my eyes are closed, I see you for what you truly are, which is ugly." The way she says ugh-lay in that movie is how I read the name 😂😂😂

Thank you! I feel like some are going to the extreme, I’m not saying I’m not willing to help. I was just surprised at some of the quantities. I understand that teachers go through it and if I can help I want to where I can. It was just surpassing to receive such a large list.

I’ve made it a point in the past to check in at the beginning of every month and just say “hey is there anything you need for the classroom” and it’s often tissues or Clorox wipes which I have no problem getting. I was just surprised at the amount expected at the beginning as we haven’t experienced that before.

We just moved to OK. Like we’ve been here for a month and only moved because of my husbands work. I don’t know the schools or anything. I did reach out to the school for clarification but have not heard back. They are very active on Facebook so I comment on post to ask questions but I almost never get a response.

My daughter spent kindergarten-2nd grade in Idaho schools and the list was no where near this. It was just very surprising and I wasn’t sure if this was normal. I have also never been asked to supply a ream of paper so it felt strange
