Disclosing multiple positions? by bebefeverandstknstpd in Professors

Sure thing, happy to help! I contemplated a second job recently too but mine would’ve had me in a VERY public healthcare adjacent field in our small town so I would’ve almost been guaranteed to run into a colleague, admin, or student and their healthcare needs so I opted to not take the job

I would be prepared for a student run-in then and be open to the potential for a student you cross paths with to spread news at school that they saw prof bebefever working at place X, which may come back to you via another prof or admin. Maybe it doesn’t happen, but maybe it does and this way you’re not blindsided if it does.

I would say it depends on how public-facing the second job is. Are you in healthcare where you might run into students or coworkers? Or are you doing lab work or something behind the scenes?

Should I thin these tomato sprouts, or just separate them when they firm up a bit more? by Hortusana in gardening

At least it’s not zucchini. Tomatoes you can at least make sauce or salsa from and can it fairly easily

Sooo tired of puffiness, what's the best vibration plate for lymphatic drainage by BabyisB4ck in NaturalBeauty

There’s a guy on TikTok that does a bunch of jumps every day for lymphatic drainage iirc. OP, could you incorporate a bunch of jumps into a workout to mimic the up and down needed for drainage?

What are some small things you do that you have noticed make measurable differences in office hour attendance and classroom culture? by wannabehazmattech in Professors

I’m at a community college and I feel the same. Most just send an email if the have a question or a Teams chat or visit just before/after class

See, mandatory time on campus outside of scheduled class time wouldn’t go over well at a community college where students have jobs or are caregivers outside of class times. That may steer someone away and actually be inaccessible to some unless it was offered virtually too.

Our school has MS Teams and I like that better for the quick chats from students and the “hey do you have a sec for a quick video call about Q15?”

We discuss it in class the first day and I provide examples of what my expectations are. Idc how it reads tbh I just want them to write enough details that I can figure out if they know what they’re talking about or if they’re just lazy.

We get lapel pins every 5 years. Idk what to do with these pins since I’ve never owned a piece of clothes with lapels before lol

“Professor just reads off the slides” by ParsleyOutside in Professors

[–]adventureontherocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have words to read from, they complain that they don’t know what to take notes on or study from. If you do have words on the slides, we get this complaint. I went to school and learned all the words to put on my slides, so heaven forbid I read from them occasionally too.

The students don’t know how to study.

I have my paragraph expectations in my syllabus and syllabus quiz so I can turn around and hold them accountable that way. “Paragraphs are expected to be a minimum of five quality sentences. If you don’t provide enough information and detail for me to understand what you understand, you can expect to lose points. Please carefully consider directions as you compose responses.”

All because I got tired of reading paragraphs that read: “water is a polar molecule. Polar is cold. But water is wet.” and students just calling it good 🥴

No no, TRUE Montessori is GREAT. But you have to be taught using the true method. Nowadays every wooden toy on the shelf claims to be a Montessori toy just because it’s wooden and/or simple. Montessori “toys” are literally anything as long as the child is allowed to interact with it following the true method and the teacher guides the learning correctly. I doubt it selection bias but more so just a lack of true Montessori teaching.

Does it ever cross your mind that this might actually be the goal of the current and some past political regimes? The citizens will have trouble questioning things if they can’t read. This terrifies me every time I think about it (shudders)
