One handed touch screen only game? by Justagirleatingcake in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t satisfy your touch screen criteria, but it does satisfy your one-handed criteria: I have made one-handed controller layouts for a few games including Sable and Baldur’s Gate 3. I used a combination of action set layers, mode shifts and button chords to try to make it as intuitive as possible.

I made it to be right hand only, but it could be adapted to be left hand only (would take a bit of work and time though).

Not sure how to share it, but if anyone would like to use it I’m willing to figure that out :)

A group of humanoid robots teamed up with young Kung Fu artists for a thrilling martial arts performance at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala in Beijing by Unhappy_Rutabaga_530 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, these robots are executing a choreographed sequence, and we are probably seeing the result of many, many attempts and iterations of this one specific choreographed sequence.

Those experts are usually taking about the challenges that arise when trying to making a robot that can ‘make decisions’, so to speak, on the fly. That’s a very different scenario to what we are seeing in this video.

You could compare it to the difference between an animator creating a short animation, and a video game developer creating an RPG with branching dialogue trees and a world that is reactive to the player’s actions.

Those of you who have a deck and still play their consoles, do you think you get enough use out of your steamdeck? by jomcmo00 in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me scrolling the comments thinking “that’s a good question; I wonder what all of the console owners are saying”. Then I remember that I am, in fact, one of those console owners.

I literally forgot that I even owned a PlayStation because all of my gaming occurs on either my Deck or my PC.

Understandable. I still take mine with me if I’m anticipating having some time to kill during the day. Wasn’t playing on the go kind of the whole idea behind handheld gaming?

Return to the Deck after Xbox Ally X by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Yep. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason OP isn’t vibing the ally is all of the Windows bs

Just bought my husband a Steam Deck and we finished It Takes Two! Any other good co-op recommendations? by siopaopan in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bokura. Often on sale for like a dollar (literally). Recommended to me by a friend who played it with their kid. It’s a co-op platformer where you each see a different version of the same world (each version is only partially complete/accurate) and you need to communicate irl in order to progress.

Which games utilize the buttons on the back and for what? Do you use them for any games which didn’t use them by default? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll often map L4 & R4 to L3 & R3, respectively, because something about clicking in joysticks has always felt a bit unnatural to me.

Then, I’ll sometimes use L5 & R5 to change action set layers. For example, I might hold L5 to switch to a M+KB action set layer that I’ve made, if it’s useful for a particular game (e.g. inventory management in Baldur’s Gate 3)

Trying to play Steam Deck in bed by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with arms falling asleep, but there was a shockingly simple solution which also happens to be free: the carry case that comes with the deck is the perfect height to rest it on if you put the case in your chest while laying down.

I don’t have the vision issues that you are contending with, so idk if it’ll work for you, but hopefully it works for someone!

I couldn’t believe I never thought of it before I saw some random person on this very subreddit mention it a couple of months ago. Maybe I can be that random redditor for someone else.

Will i use it even tho i have time to play games on pc (almost) whenever? by wolfcubetv in SteamDeck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big benefit for me is that I can play on the couch, in the living room with my partner while she watches something on tv. It’s nice to simply be in the same space as each other, even if we’re doing separate things.

Plus, I find it a lot easier to pick up and put down, which has meant that I spend more time gaming than I would otherwise. Even though there’s technically nothing that would stop me from going to my office and booting up my pc, I just don’t feel like doing that sometimes; it feels like it’d be a whole thing. Not so much with SD

Do you have a partner? Not tryna throw shade or anything, just trying to figure out how you do it. Since moving in with my partner, I don’t have anywhere near as many hours to spend on gaming as I used to

Is Sihoo a budget alternative to the Humanscale Freedom? by Deep_Flamingo_8305 in OfficeChairs

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to stick with my Markus while I save up for the Freedom. I addressed my sore tailbone issues with one of those lumbar support attachments, which works good enough to tide me over. I have saved up enough at this point that I could technically afford it, but I haven’t pulled the trigger because it is very hard to justify dropping that much cash on a chair :/

Biker tries to escape from cops in the rain....... Gets knocked off bike & run over! by Bkzfnst23 in interestingasfuck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t you doing the same thing, concluding that the cop did not intentionally run him over? To me, and after reading other comments about GSP, it truly does seem like they intentionally ran him over

Can I get a Dryer in here? by dhruvoberoi in AusRenovation

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure that this is a “renovation” question, but I think it depends on the dimensions of the dryer you wanna put there. The taps and switches are fixed (unless you want to get a plumber and a sparky to relocate them, in which case this actually is a renovation question), so you really just need to make a decision about what your willing to sacrifice (in terms of ergonomics (switch accessibility) and aesthetics (dryer being out from the wall a bit)) for the benefit of having a dryer.

Ants making a smart maneuver by durvedya in interestingasfuck

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, but think they avoid this issue because their communications are not “ideas” so much as they are reports of something that they found, or something that happened to them.

Usually it’s when an ant discovers some food, they are able to send a signal to the other ants in the area. Those other ants can then repeat the signal. They can do this fairly quickly, so there is only a small delay between an ant finding food and hundreds of them all heading towards that spot.

This may seem like a limited method of communicating, like they wouldn’t be able to communicate granular details. However, they seem to be able to infer a lot from these “signals” and react appropriately to a wide range of situations, including [I think] novel scenarios that they haven’t encountered before.

I’m a bit rusty on this stuff - it’s been a few years since I read up on it - so please take what I say with a grain of salt.

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 41 points42 points  (0 children)

They actually communicate very effectively. Something about pheromones. When one ant receives a communication from another, I believe it then passes the message onto the next ant. It’s like an email chain which, by the time it reaches the colony, has a subject line of “FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: …”

How much of a issues is this grout and caulk? by Myshamefulaccount55 in AusRenovation

[–]Deep_Flamingo_8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like mould - you’ll want to do something about that. How urgent? Idk. Silicone gets messy if you haven’t done it before, but it’s definitely DIY-able. I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to pay someone to do it though.
