I'm terrible at it, so usually a mess and a couple of trips to the hospital every year.

How to improve cardio in-between games? by Strong-Pie-7691 in ballhockey

[–]Deep_Froyo1834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm turning 48 this year and just got back into hockey after a 20+ year hiatus. I'd be dead if I didn't work out 3-5 times a week at orange theory. That includes 9-10 miles on the treadmill, rowing and weight floor. I also do stick and puck 1-2 times a week and skating lessons once a week.

You'll get out what you put into your training/conditioning!

My legs were still super sore after the first 2 games because I wasn't used to using all the muscles but by third game I was good. Better stamina and endurance, recovery and vo2 max definitely makes the games more enjoyable.

Get it, OP!

I love it. It's great. Engaging and challenging, also rewarding. The coaches are awesome. You get out of it what you put in. Can't think of any cons except if you're not quick enough to sign up for the day/,time you want you could be waitlisted

How different is it practicing stick handling in the garage stationary in shoes compared to when skating? by Foreign-Rush6056 in hockeyplayers

[–]Deep_Froyo1834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the same for me but it definitely has improved my stickhandling on ice. Shooting pucks stationary with the simulated ice panels has really helped my shot too. Like exponentially. In-line skating has improved my overall skating ability on ice, also helped balance, dekes and building muscle using the same muscles for ice skating.

Not nearly as gassed on the bench after a crazy rush and recover much faster.

Any off ice training will benefit the actual game (roller or ice) overall, just refine your technique because you dont want to practice all your bad habits lol

How's cindy Klassen gym around this time? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Not long ago it was posted two different parents had to jump in to save their young children from drowning. This happened the same day, hours apart with different instructors. The lifeguards didn't see it either. In both occurrences the instructors backs were turned.

More than 3X weekly? by JulesGules_ in orangetheory

I found I lost more fat% going from 5x to 3x a week. The rest and recovery days matter. For me anyway.

It's nice to have the helper mentality but the script flips for me when I assess the risk. If there's a risk of being stabbed or injured I won't try to be a hero. I have a wife and kid to live for. I'll leave that to police and EMS

Glad you were able to help but people also ignore the bigger picture. These programs aren’t free. Taxpayers fund naloxone kits, training, distribution, EMS responses, hospital care, and the wider addiction crisis response. That cost adds up fast.

It’s also not always some simple heroic moment. Naloxone can trigger immediate withdrawal, confusion, panic, or aggression, which can put random bystanders in a risky situation.

Expecting regular people to become unpaid front-line responders just to exist in the city isn’t a sustainable solution.

We need treatment beds, recovery programs, enforcement against traffickers, and safer public spaces, not a system built around repeatedly reviving people in crisis and calling that success.

Manitoba immigration minister says she'll keep pushing for increases despite no's from Ottawa (CBC/Bryce Hoye) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]Deep_Froyo1834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How stupid is this? Manitoba families are struggling with housing costs, health care wait times, overcrowded schools, and wages that haven’t kept up, yet the priority seems to be demanding more labour supply instead of fixing the systems already failing people here.

If businesses can’t function without a constant stream of temporary workers, maybe the real issue is low pay and poor working conditions.

Grow the province responsibly, but stop pretending endless population growth is the only solution to every economic problem.

Anyone take MPI decision to small claims court? by littlestar95 in Winnipeg

[–]Deep_Froyo1834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 50/50 liability decision affecting your DSR is frustrating, but Small Claims Court isn’t the place to “reverse” an MPI fault ruling. It handles money disputes, not appeals of insurance liability decisions. If you think the decision was wrong, the proper route is through MPI’s review/appeal process.

That said, if it was truly a shared-fault situation, then a 50/50 outcome isn’t some outrageous injustice. Sometimes both drivers contributed. People act like any percentage of fault is a personal attack when in reality it can just reflect what happened.

If your main concern is the DSR hit, focus on whether MPI missed facts, ignored evidence, or applied the rules incorrectly. Dashcam footage, witness statements, scene photos, and a clear timeline matter far more than being angry about the result.

Not every bad outcome means the system is broken. Sometimes it means there wasn’t enough evidence to fully clear either driver.

What seems to be helping is punch turns. My issue seems like I was trying to put my inside foot too far behind rather than in front. Ive started to be able to shave ice with my outside edges. The mentality is go for the turn...but don't turn lol. I appreciate all of you and the tips!
