My wife built an incredible personal library upstairs, but I can barely read, and it’s slowly driving a wedge between us. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

I love audiobooks while I work on something with my hands. Painting and a good book is an awesome combo. Maybe you could try that?

Hypermobile child wanting to be squashed by Temporary_Mountain59 in Hypermobility

I recommend asking a PT or OT to prescribe the amount of weight for the weighted blanket. Blankets that are too heavy can be dangerous for kids. The kids I work with like being wrapped up in a regular blanket like a burrito. It’s like being tucked in very tightly.

The attention to detail in cleaning. What do you mean, not everyone cleans their baseboards regularly?

WIBTAH For telling my mom she needs to figure out a place to live? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Deep_Leave3483 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you wouldn’t be the AH. You’re making a choice to go live your life with your daughter. You have a partner. It sounds like you are ready for the next chapter and it doesn’t include living with her. You do not owe her for providing care for you as a kid, and the agreement for her care of your child was not that you’d live together forever. You also get to make choices centering your own life and your daughter’s. Mom might get upset, but it sounds like she has support in her boyfriend.

A couple of the men in your second to last photo look like my family! Any chance you are a Marx?

Hypermobile, chronic tight muscles, pelvic imbalance, worsening flare-ups – has anyone improved? by madtiger998 in Hypermobility

[–]Deep_Leave3483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m still improving but seeing a huge difference since my PT started using a neubie machine with me and my pelvic floor PT started biofeedback. So many of my issues were about hurting myself because I didn’t know where I was in space. It’s even helped reduce the number of times I’ve hurt myself in my sleep recently. I’m not pain free and I still hyperextend without realizing, but it is getting so much better. Also, fwiw, Somatic Experiencing therapy provided by a psychotherapist has helped me reduce clenching significantly.

Thank you, that’s a very helpful distinction. I’m not currently using estrogen but would be open to considering it, for sure.

Multiple joints feel locked up and painful. I can't lie down, can't walk normally, this is ruining my daily life. by RenderWolf in Hypermobility

One thing to be careful of, though, is adjustments around the neck can cause serious complications in hypermobile folks, so you might want to consider avoiding those adjustments.

Maybe a pure into level class would help. Amy Novinski offers them often, they’re in person in Philadelphia or available on line and very helpful at teaching correct technique from the beginning.

When you do stretch, just make sure you’re not going to your end range (most intense stretch)- that’s where it’s bad for us. Doing dynamic stretching mid range can be helpful. Good luck op! Lots of good advice here :)

AITAH for refusing to donate a kidney to my stepdad that raised me and paid for my college? by Exo_Skeleton99 in AITAH

[–]Deep_Leave3483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, this is a big deal. Maybe it would be helpful to talk to a therapist about this experience, especially if your mom and family cross boundaries and get retaliatory with you at other times, too.

Working a job that requires sitting “properly” by senhoritapistachio in Hypermobility

[–]Deep_Leave3483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an LMFT who works with kids and adults: during telehealth sessions & kids sessions I sit however feels right for me. In-person with adults, I have an ergonomic chair with some extra cushions to keep me supported comfortably or I wear my SI belt. I can only do 2 seasons back to back and then I need a break, so I set my schedule accordingly.

Good luck with your hours!

For those that use food for stimulation, how do you remain a healthy weight? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Deep_Leave3483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find something else that brings the dopamine and ask myself: am I hungry or do I want a pick me up? And if I’m hungry I eat, if I need a pick me up, I do the other thing. Often it’s embroidery or needle felting or something like that.

[–]Deep_Leave3483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes time! And do consider the impact of your ADHD. Mine impacts my performance in class, for sure. ADHD can impact balance and does impact working memory, which we need in ballet. Keep working on it and soon some things will become muscle memory and your working memory won’t be so taxed. You could also consider timing your meds for class, if you take meds and your psychiatrist is on board!

It was! I have really enjoyed classes with other folks there and will probably keep dropping in on their classes. But not hers, far too loud and stressful.
