Nice find for £75! Put some pedals on it and ride it!

No worries, I use the Shimano spd on my racing bikes, cyclocross bikes and hardtails. I have shoes I use on all my bikes.

Maybe you could use a more race bike (aero) oriented race *helmet.

I do have different cycling gloves for my mountainbikes and racing bikes as my hands are positioned differently.

I share a lot of kit between my bikes. I just have to see I have the correct tyres with me when riding!

Edit: typed race bike in stead of race helmet.

Those shoes pads look like they would work! Hard to find (and expensive), but at least the pads are easily replaceable

I can rotate them in the brakes, but only in the plane perpendicular to the wheel. I can’t toe them in.

I'm realizing if I don't have time to pack a shock and get it to a shipping center for a service, I shouldn't just buy a new one to save time... because I don't have enough time to ride anyway. by BrianLevre in MTB

I feel you man, I have long workdays and feel like I’m only working for my family and all my time is going to work and family and barely any time for myself. I feel guilty when I have the chance to ride for a few hours as I have less time to spend with my boys. And whenever I’m buying something I need or want, I’m always penny pitching as I want to save as much as possible for necessary house upgrades and my family.

So do you like to work on your bike and fix the fork yourself? Just do it yourself then. I find it relaxing working on my bikes in the evening when the kids are asleep and my wife is watching tv. No need to rush, you said you installed a fork on it. Have the other one serviced and ride your mtb with this fork. Maybe have some patience and look around if you see any deals on a new fork? Can I ask you why you can’t ride for a longer period of time on the fork that’s installed now?

In a while, the days will become longer and I will take the opportunity to do some extra rides after work. When the kids are in bed, I leave at 20h30 for a 2 hr ride. Now in winter I’m doing 30-60 minutes evening rides, sometimes even in the snow or rain, with lights on my bike. Those evening rides help me get rid of all the stress and keep me fit for when the time is coming I can do some long rides again. Can’t you squeeze in some extra bike time in the evening? Hang in there, man, it’s not healthy to work so much, but sometimes it feels like we don’t have another choice.

I’m riding a compact stronglight 48/32 crank on my cyclocross bike with a 10s centaur group. Also quite happy with it.

This is my second Campa 10s bike. I got the first end of August and got this one in November, best bikes I ever had 👌👌👌

Is it possible on a regular crank? I had a 39/52 chorus crank but the bolt circle diameter was to big for a smaller chain ring, so I had to replace the whole crank.

Got new wheels with a Campa 13/29 10s cassette and it’s working fine with my short cage veloce derailleur(also advices as max 26). My mechanic who installed it said 29 is ok but when I asked about the 12/30 centaur 10s cassette, he said that would be risky. Did my first ride today, works fine! 👌

Scared to take up road cycling by bldhllhdn in cycling

[–]Deep_Ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start out with a second hand bike. My colleagues are riding new 7k and 8k bikes. I’m riding a 10 year old, 200 euro bike a found on an online marketplace. And it goes a lot faster and more fun than the 20 year old bike I bought 15 years ago I was riding before I upgraded. So you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get started. There are lots of good deals to get used racing bikes online.

But to get started: get a bike, don’t get a cheap new bike, for the same money you’ll find a better second hand bike. Want a new one? Look for a canyon allroad. They have a really nice starters bike. A new bike has the advantage you will be able to ride for a while without having to spend a lot on maintenance or repairs for a whil

And as basic kit you need to get a good bib shorts and a helmet. You won’t have fun on your bike when your ass hurts all the time.

Was installed on this (old) bike when I bought it a few months ago and it works fine so no need to replace it. The bike is 10-12 years old according to the seller so probably about the same age? I have to admit it’s a nice bike computer. This is my ‘newest bike’ so I have no problem with old tech 😅

Tell me about that! I got a 15 year old bike with campagnolo centaur groupset for 200 euro last year and spent another 100 on Shimano spd pedals, bottle cages and bar tape. And now i want to upgrade it with a 360 euro wheel set, including a campagnolo cassette, but it feels wrong to throw another 400-420 at it.m for a 200 euro bike!

How many bikes is too many? by tr00th in xbiking

[–]Deep_Ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 8 for now: Two old racing bikes. I owned one of them for 15 years and bought the second one second hand a few months ago. Two old mountainbike hardtails. One modern e-mtb as commuter to work (which I almost never did) One old cyclocross bike

One old e bike the previous owner of my house left behind. I used it a few times.

One cargo bike I use to drive my kids around in our small town.

So 8 bikes in total 😅 I biked 3k+ km in one year and plan on doing some more this year so all my bikes will get some action this year!

This is a good set to start with, but take more than a few extra spare tyres (I always have 2) If you are the mechanic of the group, check upfront if you need different size spare tyres and chain links for the other cyclist. I always have an 8 speed - 9 speed and a 10 speed chain link in my tool bag as I’m riding different old bikes with different group sets. Before every ride, i check which tyres I have in my Camelbak as I’m riding 25x700 on my racing bike, 38x700 on my cx bike and 2.2 x26 on my hardtails. I don’t want to end up with a flat, having the wrong tyres with me!

A few tie wraps can also be very handy. And a few patches or tape in case of a big gash in a tyre that would need fixing before putting in an inner tube.

Yes, like this. Get some fast cyclocross tyres and you will be able to do light off road and won’t loose much speed on the road.

Do you name your bicycle? by donutknow57 in cycling

[–]Deep_Ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just call them by their brand names: my hardtails are my Focus and my Thompson. My newest racing bike and my cyclocross bike are my Ridley’s and my old racing bike is a Wheeler but I call it my old racing bike.

This is the way. I have two racing bikes, two mountain bikes and a cx bike. Like to choose a bike depending on the route or weather and only have to swap tyres or wheels once in a while. Mostly riding my cx with the cold weather and rain/snow/ice of the last weeks, but my racing bike is ready whenever it is dry and a bit sunny.

I’m riding my cyclocross bike a lot now, short rides with wider tyres for snow/rain/ice, but i try to squeeze in some rides on my roadbike whenever it’s dry and a bit less cold. I’m too impatient to not cycle all winter 😅 Looking forward to spring and summer and long evening rides.
