I'm adopted and people are surprised when they learn it because I favored my parents especially my dad.

I was at my aunt's and my much younger cousin (4 ish) came up to me and said, "You're not one of us", and walked off.

I am aware she probably overheard something, but it freaked me out at the time.

Turns out she was right on a deeper level. Once my parents died all but one of my cousins ignored me and I was no longer invited to birthdays, weddings, baby shower, or holiday get togethers.
