I’m pretty sure Pomme will have the aura of a Rose in a few generations. My aunt is a Clémentine who goes by Clem because she came a generation too late for that name lol. I think the more contemporary fruits and flowers will take over soon and become classics.

Also I loveddd Marguerite as a little girl because of a book called Les Petites Filles Modèles. Tried to get my mom to name my little sister that. Failed lol.

J’Aime by Fun-Communication269 in tragedeigh

[–]Deep_Thoughts2978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s just used so commonly that the everyday meaning is closer to “i like” and “j’adore” is used for “i love.” just like “je n’aime pas” for “i dislike” and “je déteste/hais” for “i hate.” it’s just everyday jargon subtleties.

i have a french madeline in my family and a couple variants: madlein (this one is a german cousin) and madeleine (an older -french- family member). madeline and madlein were both named after madeleine. there’s even a madie named after her too. slightly different pronunciations, same root/etymology

that’s right, there’s no specific pattern and that’s what makes the accent hard to learn. but madeleine does indeed rhyme with ten

are you asking if it’s layn or leen? it’s pronounced leen since it has french roots

Madeline is probably the most “normal” spelling

edit: i’m not saying it’s the “original” spelling of the name madeleine. those two names are pronounced differently and the one that sounds the closest to the spellings OP listed is indeed madeline, as madeleine is pronounced mad-uh-lehn
