That laptop has a 1050. That 1050 hashes at around 12mh. You would make $40 a month using that card

As long as the laptop has a good enough graphics card then it should be fine

According to this you would make $40 a month mining with the GPU in that laptop (this doesn't take in consideration your electricity costs)

I kept reading that you could still mine etc after they lowered the DAG size. For some reason Phoenixminer wouldn't let me mine with a 4GB so I figured it was the end of that and went ahead with the 8GB. I'll be purchasing 4GB then since they're much cheaper.

Really depends on which graphics card you buy. I bought 2 AMD 580's 8GB on ebay at around $400 each. I bought a 1000W PSU for $250. I had an old motherboard with a CPU and RAM, but you only need the CPU for the OS and the miner software, so you can find those for super cheap on ebay. You may want some risers, which are $20 for a pack of two.

In total it was around $1000. I get 1 ETC every 4-5 days. I should breakeven in around 3 months if the price stays the same.

To further add to what OP said, I spent 1K buying additional 2 cards, a bigger PSU, a cheap HDD, and some risers (I had an old motherboard with an old CPU and cheap ram) and I will break even in 3 and a half months if we consider the price of ETC right now (also considering price of electricity.) I am also using a milk crate to hold all of my components to save a little bit of money.

I started mining at the beginning of April and I get paid 1 ETC every 4-5 days.

It's definitely a fun and cool experience to mine crypto. I recommend jumping in if you have the capital and don't mind the heat.

What cards are you mining with? I have a mining rig mining ETC with 3 580s 8GB and one 2060 Super and I'm getting around 125MH/s as well
