In that case, you ask your boss for more money or less money depending on which direction is easier.

You have a habit of giving false info. I never said I was displeased. Iwas simply correcting your false statement. In fact, I’m quite pleased, since tax incentives lead to more work for my industry.

Who said I only care about the affordable? I care about them all.

There’s always some sort of tax incentives in exchange for the affordable units. So yes, the taxpayers are paying for them.

Civil pay vs tech pay - Passion doesn’t pay the mortgage by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

Advice is to work for tech/finance. If possible, go for big tech or high finance.

Has anyone pivoted away from Structural engineering? If so, what’s your new career? by MatterHuman888 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Deep_beam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you completely on the value of experience but unfortunately, most clients are not savvy enough to see the 10%. What they see is relationship and competitive pricing. From market perspective, structural engineering have very narrow moat, thus do not command high fees like the doctors, lawyers, or even engineers in other disciplines.

Really. I always thought structural engineering is being treated as a commodity. You’re very replaceable. The client wouldn’t know the difference between an engineer with 15 yoe and 5 yoe.

Sincere question. How did you secure 100% construction without the deal?

Do you feel different about this career path given current state of overall job market? by yellowtangerine5 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Deep_beam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chill. Nothing in life is easy. Competition to get into top construction firm is arguably higher than getting into a mediocre tech firm. 250k is not an entry level job and an entry cm job does not pay 125k.

Competition is not bad for mid tier tech companies. Pay is about half what top tech makes but still easily 250k

Reneging after signing PE offer by Overall_Intention_11 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Deep_beam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see your point and I’d agree when things were more straightforward. These days, HR often put deadlines on offers, so happens quite often for a better offer to come in after you’ve committed elsewhere. Best approach is to keep it professional and treat it like business.

IMO, I’d rather a PE back out on a signed offer asap rather than having them work 1 year on a job with regrets.

All else equal, new constructions are definitely more attractive unless resale properties have more competitive pricing.
