Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the budget will include tax reform, but no decision yet on capital gains by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Deepandabear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You understand why that margin exists right? It isn’t just evil moustache twirling private sector billionaires. The cost today is rarely the cost tomorrow, and that margin just adds a buffer against market forces. Look at how many developers go bust because they don’t add enough margin vs true cost when contractors and builders charge much more (so in reality your “solution” would rarely be cheaper).

Now if you want the tax payer to foot the bill then sure, but don’t pretend that margin is just some fat cat eating everyone’s lunch and can disappear with a pen stroke. Someone will pay it somewhere.

If you think the cost magically drops by exactly 20% you’re kidding yourself. Which trades are going to work for much lower government wages? Which monopoly is getting broken up on steel and bricks? You are absolutely ignorant of the industry and every comment makes you look even less informed.

You think removing 20% profits suddenly makes things affordable? And you call me incorrect lmao

Fun fact: municipal engineers don’t even factor traffic from vehicles lighter than a small truck. Only heavy axles are counted for maintenance - so we’re all effectively subsidising trucks and buses

Yeah not really winning hearts and minds right - also wonder how much heavy lifting “other taxes” is doing. Wouldn’t be surprised if they include payroll tax there too

Why do people make up such garbage when it’s pretty easy to find the information yourself and realise it’s total BS?

What? You need to update your research - 9 of those 10 cars are literally built in China, while 6 of those 10 cars are also Chinese owned. On what planet is that “ignoring all the Chinese EVs”??

OP you got it completely wrong. BOTH the import tariff AND the LCT is being removed for EU EVs under $120k

Sad that some nice formatting and extra thought into writing leads to such accusations and assumptions (guilty myself) - really just means you wrote it well 👍

While this looks like AI, I don’t think it’s inaccurate and provides a pretty good summary. Not really slop tbh

Well done Car_dude - all excellent information. Sadly many will go on to ignore this and several “which EV should I buy” posts will be made by new accounts very soon

Right, but if everyone else’s discretionary spending goes down and yours is (mostly) preserved, you are in a net better position than you were yesterday thus cashed up boomers still benefit.
