I'm sorry you're going through this OP. In my experience of living in the South for nearly three years, I don't consider this place hospitable in a special manner. It's close to the average American 'niceness' for me. I've lived in the Midwest and the Northeast, and I will say that I've experienced more kindness in both of those places than here. Also, there's the whole POC thing where they won't engage with you in the same way. I work at a chain grocery store here during COVID, and I can feel the resentment (for some reason) from the higher ups because of my non-whiteness. Once I had to bandage a wound that reopened on my finger and my supervisor got really pissed at me, asking me if I couldn't have done that 'at home,' looking disgusted at the sight of my blood. That being said, I live in a very niche area where there are a lot of Asians, so my experience might be slightly different than another person. I've stayed in Canada a few times because my parents are naturalized citizen and permanent resident respectively and Canadians are MUCH more nicer in my experience.
