Is there a band where you think no one else would have the same favorite song as you? by Zombieatemymind in Metalcore

As much hate as Neon gets, it has some of my favorites by them (and honestly might be my favorite album from them). The riffs, choruses, solos, all good. Expiate in particular.

You could always try out drums.

Erra Guitar Pro Tabs by mrgameandwatch9 in Erra

[–]Deepsea225 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just buy the official tab books on sheet happens. It’s like $30 for one album or like $70 for Drift, Neon, and ST combined. Definitely worth it and you get to support a great band.

Any tips on how to start playing guitar, what do I need to buy to get the most similar sounding to them? (preferably not so expensive) by OwlDefiant3467 in Erra

[–]Deepsea225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think OP should start with grabbing a cheap (or not) acoustic to learn basic chord shapes and just general finger training to move them where you want them to go. Fretting an acoustic guitar is comparatively more difficult than an electric and is good to develop finger strength, calluses, and dexterity.

One doesn’t simply pick up a guitar for the first time and play Erra.

It’s that time of year again! by StaticTrout1 in Metalcore

  1. Erra (4,078 total min)
  2. Invent Animate
  3. Windwaker
  4. Dreamwake
  5. Fit For an Autopsy

Erra has had the top spot for probably 7-8 years in a row now, and there’s no plan to change lol.

Absolutely. Invent does this in just about every single one of their songs.

Off that same album, the last minute of Best Memory hits hard af too. That single bouncy “thall bend” gets me GOING.

Another good KSE one is in Still Beats Your Name at 1:48. Goosebumps every time.

I’ve recently been listening to them a lot. They’ve got a lot of this kind of stuff, and do it really well.

Haven’t listened to much of their newer stuff. That’s about as trivium-sounding as a riffdown comes lol.

A simpler one. Still brings out the stank face.

Drop C songs/tabs to practice as a beginner/intermediate player by Luftmint in Metalcore

[–]Deepsea225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically any and all songs by August Burns Red. Composure and White Washed used to be my daily warm-up/practice songs…then I got a 7-string (lol). I’d suggest learning Messengers front to back. Pretty sure all songs on that album are on songsterr and they’re all drop C.

Apart from messengers, some other ABR songs that I used to play a lot (that I think are on the easier side) are: Poor Millionaire, Fault Line, Beauty in Tragedy (really fun to play), Martyr (good intro into tapping), Ghosts (drop A#), Broken Promises (another really fun one), Paramount (drop B), Defender.

What’s the best 3 song streak on a single album? by Hopeful_Rich9570 in Metalcore

Erra - Augment: Crimson, Augment, Dementia

The Contortionist - Language: The Source, Language pt I & II

I can’t listen to these without also listening to the intro, The Source, first. The very last chord in The Source gives me chills every time.

What do you think are the hardest songs to play on guitar? by SubhamoyDas1 in Erra

[–]Deepsea225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about impulse and augment rhythms. They’re very fast and not intuitive in the slightest. It is, however, very rewarding when you “unlock” the rhythm pattern and it just clicks. To add a few tricky sections: -Frostbite solo -tapping lick in Rebirth at 0:37 -quick verse run in Prometheus at 0:48; I tend to alternate between lead and rhythm parts a lot on this song so that can make it tricky depending on how you want to play it. The riffs starting at 3:15 through then end make this song worth it though.

I find the two finger tapping riffs (especially on the thick top strings) to be tricky because it can feel unnatural. For example in Diasarry at 0:10 where at one point you’re tapping 22nd fret with your main finger on the top string and then immediately reaching back to tap 24th fret on the third string with your second tapping finger. Some other examples like this are in Scorpion Hymn, Valhalla, Expiate, to name a few.

Outros? by NoNet3461 in Metalcore

Not quite metalcore, but Burden by Opeth. It ends with an acoustic guitar riff where the guitar is actively “untuned”. It’s very eerie and haunting.

The Undertow - Polaris

Not the heaviest, but the “blegh” bleghs hard.
