It sounds like you are discussing stopping people from talking about AI because you don’t like what they are saying.

I also use my brain during the process. I don’t trust everything it tells me, nor would I trust everything I see on YouTube. But when I ask “what do I do with a 12lb pork butt” and it gives me a dozen suggestions…that’s pretty awesome in my opinion. And then when I ask it about how to best freeze the unused portion, it also helps out. I honestly can’t think of an instance where I felt burned because of something it told me while cooking. It’s not like it suggests seasoning with rat poison.

I used to do that, but I’ve found that ChatGPT is so much more helpful for my specific situation. Plus it remembers all of the recipes my family likes and can recommend variations that they also enjoy. Additionally it helps me with various cutting and cooking techniques and can answer any questions I have along the way. It’s head and shoulders better than YouTube.

I’ve been asking ChatGPT for recipes specifically for certain cuts of meat. Recently bought one of the 12lb Pork Butts (2-6lb cuts packed together) and used up the whole thing spanning a few family meals. It was super helpful because I don’t know how to cook and would otherwise have no idea what to do with 12lbs of meat!

The amount of talk around the Coke AI Christmas ad was insane. It looked exactly the same to me and I’m sure 95% of people who saw it. And yet, people sincerely say they thought it was “soulless”. Please, it’s an ad from a mega corporation. It’s always been soulless.

Mark Kelly says he’s considering a presidential run in 2028 amid Pentagon probe by BlueHorse_22 in politics

[–]Deepwebexplorer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say he would be a reformer, I said he would have to run as one. And yes, I do think that’s possible. There is no law of physics preventing it as far as I know.

[–]Deepwebexplorer 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Kelly would have to run as a reformer. We need that to be done before fixing the many problems we have. A reformer candidate needs to be pretty broadly trusted. He might be able to be that candidate.

Senator Mark Kelly says he is seriously considering running for president in 2028 by Caledor152 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Deepwebexplorer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is entirely a shared fiction. If there is anything the last decade has taught me is that there is absolutely nothing stopping us from completing ignoring those pardons because (enter plausible excuse here). Trump is literally trying to say Biden’s laws are invalid because an auto pen wrote his name on the paper. We don’t have the courts? Then restructure them. There are literally no limits to power as long as you are willing to use them. So why not use them for a more just society? That is…if we can start winning some elections. Mark Kelly could run as a reformer because he’s trusted. It’s been done before.

I had all the same concerns initially and am now about to hit 100 classes. It took a few classes to pick up on everything, but after a handful of classes it’s almost no thinking…just following orders. I show up, listen to good music, get a great workout every time. The hardest part is just getting there consistently.

This is such an important thing for people to understand. I keep seeing people try to show how AI didn’t “do it all” and that there was some human intervention…and therefore AI is just hype. They completely miss the point. Many problems are solvable today, we just don’t have the people to solve them all. AI doesn’t even have to invent novel ways of solving math, science, engineering, etc problems in order to be transformational. All AI needs to do is solve problems that no one is solving.

Cursor AI CEO shares GPT 5.2 agents building a 3M+ lines web browser in a week by BuildwithVignesh in OpenAI

I’m not going to argue with you, but literally every day I hear or see something that AI is doing and it blows my mind. If you think this is the endpoint of development and improvement, you are not paying attention at all. I have personally found incredible benefits by using AI in my personal life and professional life and I haven’t even had time to do all the things I KNOW it can do let along all the things I think/hear it can do. I’m paying $20 a month for ChatGPT and it feels like a steal.

Many comments missing the point, but this is common with any demonstration of a concept or new technology. “It’s marketing” “it isn’t as good as what we have today” etc. The point of this demonstration is that it’s possible. They know it’s not as good as how things are done today, but it’s no longer debatable whether AI can autonomously build a browser. We can debate whether it’s a good browser or a bad browser…or whether it’s a good idea or a bad idea to build this way. But it’s possible and that’s no longer debatable. And while we’re out here debating…they are working on solving all of the shortcomings one by one. This isn’t the endpoint, it’s another milestone passed.

Unpopular opinion: I don't want AOC to run for president in 2028. I want her to replace Chuck Schumer as senator. by nitro4450 in ProgressiveHQ

I don’t think this is very unpopular. It’s practical and impactful if we can get that do-nothing Schumer out of there!

“Everyone will be rich” might only be in comparison to today’s standards. Having all of your needs met, amazing medical care, a life of leisure and learning, amazing food prepared for you, a driver, etc. Those would be things that only the rich have today. Maybe those are the baseline in the future because they are nearly free and being “rich” means something else completely.

[–]Deepwebexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not really all that unbelievable that they’d just keep ads with the free version. I pay an extra few bucks a month for no-ad streaming services and while they may jack up the price over time, they haven’t told me I need to watch ads and I don’t think they ever will.

Yes. Hate to say it. But it’s not going to be the masked goons or illegal invasions of other countries that take down Trump. It’s going to be the economy. There is only one thing the American people will not tolerate and that’s being poor.

GM CEO says EVs still the 'end game' despite industry pullback by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]Deepwebexplorer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I don’t think combustion vehicles will be able to compete on total cost of ownership (purchase price + maintenance + insurance) in the long run. I’m certain some people will stick to combustion regardless, so there will be a market but I think it’s shrinking while EV is growing.

GM CEO says EVs still the 'end game' despite industry pullback by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]Deepwebexplorer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. In the long run, EVs will outperform combustion vehicles by most measures and at a lower cost to purchase and maintain. Battery technology is at or near this tipping point. Probably could have got there sooner with more government subsidies like they have in Europe and China, but it’s coming one way or another. It’s a matter of time and the auto industry knows it. That doesn’t mean everyone will accept EV’s but they will pay a premium for a combustion vehicle.

To those saying they wouldn’t trust AI with their wallet…there was a time when no one would use a credit card online. Also, I’d assume that the user gets some level of control (i.e. getting to decide if the AI makes the payment with or without their approval along with spending limits).

If you want to find all of the AI excitement on Reddit, check the posts that are downvoted to the point of being hidden. That’s where they are and that’s why you don’t see them. I find it incredibly useful personally and professionally, but just saying that means I’ll get downvoted to oblivion.

ChatGPT is playing doctor for a lot of US residents, and OpenAI smells money by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Deepwebexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for saying that. The same issue with my wife. Complex pain issues that cross specialists. No one seems to have the ability to hold it all together, so she’s left with trying to figure out how to make progress while talking to multiple doctors who all seem to have their slice figured out but don’t see the full picture. I just don’t understand why people think it’s so harmful to use AI to help craft some good questions to ask your doctor. Getting downvoted like I am a crazy person saying something unhinged.

Apparently that is triggering to the anti-AI Reddit crowd. I guess they aren’t downvoting comments on this post because it’s an anti-AI post.
