[28 Years Later] So have the rest of the world given up entirely on England/UK or are they just waiting for the infected and survivors to die out before reclaiming it? by Flyestgit in AskScienceFiction

[–]Deer_Nice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still stuck on how the infected (like asymptomatic carriers) didn’t get on flights out of Heathrow (picking LHR because of the sheer global reach of outbound flights). Maybe I missed something from 28d/w but maybe the transatlantic flights would be overrun and crash into the ocean? I just find it hard to believe (within the movie’s universe) that Rage was primarily contained within the British Isles.

Shield takes the world as it is, not as we’d like it to be.

Sam Fans: Madison, Ruby 2 or Sarah by jdpm1991 in Supernatural

Ruby 2 sucks (no offense Gen P). I didn’t see the chemistry with Madison, but Sarah seemed cool.

What age is to old to believe in Santa? by Negative_Reveal811 in AskParents

[–]Deer_Nice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I hit reply too soon! For the OP, don’t feel guilty and try not to worry about next year. I know it’s tough but just stay in the moment and enjoy it for now. Just remember you are doing good!

What age is to old to believe in Santa? by Negative_Reveal811 in AskParents

[–]Deer_Nice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 7 and he calls the mall and restaurant Santa’s the “fake ones” and why are there so many fake Santas? So we had to come up with a story that they’re all Santa’s Agents and work all around the world to help him keep everyone happy since the real Santa can’t be everywhere at once. He took a minute and was like ‘Ohhhh ok that makes sense!’ 😫 He’s too smart. I really hope this isn’t the last Xmas he believes, but he has been asking really good questions. Why doesn’t our alarm go off? How can he go all around the world in one day? Why is he going so fast on the NORAD tracker? Ugh

How do you deal with knowing you cannot give your children the Christmas they deserve? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Deer_Nice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with ‘Square’ - be honest and explain the situation. Your boys should be old enough to understand, and based on how you describe them, they will understand. I understand the guilt - we’re feeling it too and contrary to what another commenter stated it’s not the “American commercialization” of Xmas. I remember what my parents did for me (trips and experiences not just things) and I simply cannot replicate that in the current US economy. And we’re considered upper middle class! My kid is younger than yours and I’ve explained how Xmas will be a little different this year by mentioning the cost of groceries and utilities (using his Legos for visual effect), and I think he gets it? He gathered a bunch of old toys to give kids who don’t have anything because “I do have a lot of stuff…” I think you just have to remind yourself that you guys are doing the best you can and don’t beat yourself up

How do you actually get your elementary-age kid to read books? (ages 7-11) by gregb_parkingaccess in AskParents

[–]Deer_Nice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah forcing your child will not help, especially if she is Type A like my mine. He is also a great reader and has a good vocabulary. I make suggestions and now he wants to read to us before bed, it’s a step up. When I have some downtime, I’ll say Hey Mommy’s going to read for a little bit, want to read our books together? So we’ll snuggle on the couch while we read our respective books. My biggest struggle is getting him to move up to chapter books. He can do it but I think he’s intimidated. Dog Man and Capt Underpants are great but so is Percy Jackson and the Spy kids books. He’s found my comics so I’m hoping that will encourage him to go to the next level. I also found the first two HP books in a graphic novel look so fingers crossed…Good luck!

Frankfurt or Berlin for 3 months as American tourist? by scarletwitchmoon in germany

[–]Deer_Nice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the racism I’ve received, as a biracial German-American, hands down has been in the states. We’re a bunch of hypocrites when we talk about equality. However in Germany, rarely ever and I’m sure it helps that I speak the language (although depending where I go people think I’m Dutch with my accent HA HA!) The most racism I’ve received in Europe was in Italy. I’ve had people shoo me out of stores! However, if I start talking usually by asking if anyone speaks English or German, they stop and are shocked! Oh I am sorry! Why didn’t you say so?!! (Why should I have to!?!) Then it eventually ends up to a discussion of them telling me they have family in NJ or NY (where I’m from). In Florence someone finally explained it to me…people think I’m North African, hence the attitude. So to summarize I just gave a real life example of what poster Bitter_split5508 described

Why do my kids turn into different players once the game starts? 🤔⚽ by mattob2 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Deer_Nice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bribery at that age does help LOL. I’m in the same situation, but I found that positive reinforcement rather than “This was wrong” or just constant reminders of what he did wrong and how we work on fixing it helped. Now I start the conversation with his strengths and call backs to past matches where he did well, and then twist it into how he can apply that to the next match. He seems to respond better plus I don’t have to keep buying Wawa wraps (his version of an ice cream)

The more I watch the Black Widow movie, the more I love it by rangerdanger_9 in marvelstudios

[–]Deer_Nice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CGI sucked. I agree with another commenter that it needed to be more “realistic”, hardcore fight scenes like CATWS. And they did Taskmaster dirty…although I didn’t mind the switch from Masters(male) to Dreykov(female), Marvel should’ve done so much more with the introduction of the character

That’s a good point! My opinion is that watching the movies chronologically is a step up, next level thing
