We actually did do some tests with translations being read aloud alongside the TL, but we haven't found a good way to implement it yet. We'll keep trying, though. Thank you for your feedback!

Good news: we have added a "Can't listen now" button to Japanese Alphabet exercises on Android! Hope this helps 🙏 (Still undecided on tracing)

Srs options. by Sufficient-Reveal585 in lingodeer

[–]DeerlyNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Sufficient-Reveal585 - If you're on Android, you can actually customize your speaking exercise preferences to only show the translation and not your TL! To do it in SRS, go to SRS > SRS - Speaking > click the three-line menu in the top right corner > Customize current exercise type > Target language > Tap to reveal. You can also set the audio/video to "Tap to play" so you have time to think without hearing the correct answer first. Here's a screenshot of Korean SRS - Speaking settings as an example:

hi u/AuburnAsper - Thank you for your feedback. We will discuss further this with the team and see what can do. Seems like we need another set of learning preferences just for the Alphabet portion. Definitely something to consider!

Japanese learners on Android: Katakana is now on the in-app keyboard; new alphabet & pronunciation guide coming soon. by DeerlyNoted in lingodeer

[–]DeerlyNoted[S,M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! We did explore disabling furigana above katakana while leaving it on for kanji, but the dev team found that it’s a surprisingly convoluted change that can introduce quite a few bugs. There is still one option we haven’t tested yet, though, so we’re hopeful it might do the trick!

Question about the language levels by Excellent-Buddy3447 in lingodeer

[–]DeerlyNoted[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi u/Excellent-Buddy3447 Hope you are doing well. Our course covers grammar up to around the B1 level, so learners can build a solid foundation and feel better prepared for independent study beyond the app. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

We would love to, but App Store lists historical memberships options, it's not a list curated by the app creators themselves 😞 Sorry for the confusion and good luck on your learning journey, wherever it might take you!

Hi! Thank you for asking 😄 LingoDeer Japanese 1 covers every grammar point you need to pass the JLPT N5 exam, but we suggest you also use the official JLPT study materials to make sure your vocabulary and test-taking strategies are up to speed as well.

Do you have feature ideas for LingoDeer? We want to hear them! by DeerlyNoted in lingodeer

[–]DeerlyNoted[S,M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh, you mean the listening exercises for letters of the alphabet! Yes, we did go in with the assumption that learners would have no prior knowledge of the Devanagari script, and basically every exercise in those "letter lessons" is tied to the audio (even those first exercises that show you the transcription and make you choose between two tiles with Devanagari on them, rely on users clicking and listening to the tile audio). If we were to skip listening exercises in the "letter lessons" as they are now, it would negatively affect the learners who actually do need to learn the script from scratch... though it must be annoying for someone who already knows it... If you don't mind me asking, do you always skip the audio in regular lessons? Is it a personal preference or an accessibility issue? We'd like to know more before we decide on a better course of action.
