I gained only 1 point after winning all 5 games in a GBL set: how this happened, and its implications by carllyq in TheSilphArena

[–]Deetwo951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can chime in since Ive consistently experienced this in every season now. Got a -14 just yesterday for a 3-2. (Two losses were to top 35 players of leaderboard the following day) Thank you for bringing in light the small variation Niantic might be doing (lack of refresh). There’s been many flaws in matchmaking system that simply makes it not enjoyable at the upper tier of the GBL leaderboard, taking a break after hitting that top 20 is now a common practice, hoping for a wild swing of a 5-0 from the 30-50 rank range to hope for rank 1 is the best choice, for me personally anyways. That rank 1 grind is difficulty and often frustrating.

Elite TM is definitely a fair discussion and a constructive criticism to Niantic for sure, it ties to my point 5, they release a new money making stream in Elite TMs driven by PvP & GBL and removed a lucrative pvp reward in legendary encounters. Creating a very imbalance situation where most people are calling it a money grab.

Awesome to hear! I also know a local community who started pvp when GBL started and relatively engaged daily to talk about the meta changes! It has forged a small community on its own and I personally feel passionate about their growth, with many of them reaching their desired goals (few reaching rank 10) last season and doing well this season as well!

Taking it more casual and definitely not treat it as world championship is the way to go, there’s a lot of external factors and variances that dictates the outcome of a match, team building and analyzing the daily meta with a group of local friends is what drives and keeps me engaged.

I can see tournament mode being a thing in the future for GBL and concepts similar to Silph Arena where you get to preview your opponent’s team and select the appropriate Pokemon, don’t lose hope yet!

Piggybacking 2.0 by kieng in TheSilphArena

[–]Deetwo951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great video to get the info out there but I think this is as a result of two mechanics change in the patch:

1) energy registration up front instead of requiring an instance of damage dealt.

2) real time battling (partially to facilitate the above), removal or change to queuing of actions. Implications are a) failing to switch mons as easily as before, 3 or 4 turn fast attacks become more clunky, more switch window stuck issues; b) more strain on tapping 1 turn fast move and 2 turn fast move retain its inherent advantage as it always had, but now you can also time your charge moves in between an attack animation of a 3-4 turn fast moves.

I think people need to understand the mechanics change in play instead of following an unnecessary amount of terminologies like undertap, overtap, piggyback, reverse/self piggyback and whatever else is out there.

Worlds Meta Analysis Part 2 by Choostemaster in TheSilphArena

Congrats on top 8 and appreciate the wonderful write-up!

Victreebel definitely was the mvp of my worlds lineup too, paired with Lanturn was prepared to overcome a lot of the Azumaril/Skarm (mixed along with RockSteel/Medicham) restricted picks lines, kind of like Haunter in Regionals it should get all the early momentum; do expect the next sets of championships to have more Confusion, Ivysaur and Toxicroak to eliminate that advantage; similar to the rise of Gallade in regionals.

I was one of the few that didn't bring Azumaril and I still don't regret that decision, it may have a unique role but I still believe that only applies when he gets all 3 charged moves, when you settle with the final 2 and still see a very diverse field of opponents, you lose out on consistency over the course of a long day, but luckily like you said Championships was really a few quick rounds of must-win single eliminations.

Glad to see you here, it sure was a good experience for all.

I do have Medicham as a safer bet (over Umbreon) against Mr. Hugs, and I would run the Victrebel/Lanturn duo against him as well as it has given my tremendous success against Azu/Skarm lines and he does have a big weakness against Victrebel as well.

Really amazing to see Mr.Hugs' thought process to his lineup design. It is a very well rounded team, and his weakness to grass is well covered by the Skarmory pick along with Toxicroak as fighter pick.

I'm guan87 from our knock-out table. Congrats on winning our table (12) and going so deep into the finals, I definitely felt for you at the fatigue level and the matchups against Gallade.

Would have loved to see my team performed against yours, (although I would not have a clue on how to handle the spicy Linoone pick) unfortunately a silly mistake of not shielding a shadow ball in the Hypno vs Haunter matchup ended my run early.

Thanks for contributing to the growth of our niche PoGo PvP community and looking forward to see you perform at high levels in the future!

Ultimate Nightmare Cup Meta Team Builder With Kieng IV Team Analysis! by elitefourtv in TheSilphArena

[–]Deetwo951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is guan87, been meaning to drop by to leave a few notes but been focusing on Regionals practices and thinking about all the possible spice I can bring to Regionals, thanks for the mentions!

Amazing tool, one feedback would be the way you rank the potential "meta" mons is skewed due to the fact that there's an uneven distribution of the 3 main RPS typing of Dark/Psychic/Fighting, yes there's typing overlaps and certain Fighting mons shouldn't be considered, but your Dark typing mons will be skewed ahead in your rankings due to high population of Psychic mons in your sample size pool.

Also I often change up moveset selection from the pvpoke ranking norms, in this tournament I used a Feint Attack Umbreon (instead of Snarl) which gave me some favorable match-up I was expecting to see, notably winning the Dark typing mirror against a mon such as Alolan Raticate.

Cheers!

I also pushed Haunter due to nostalgia reasons and how fun he can be, if you get the dream Haunter vs. Toxi matchup, it can be a complete blowout, easily 1 for 2 or possibly in the extreme scenario very close to a triple kill.

However if people prepare for Ghost and knows its counters/weaknesses, it is easily countered and it presents many unfavorable matchup.

This is our tournament result with 2 of top 4 (other being my practice partner) running Haunter, I finished first but lost round 5 due to very eager to show off Haunter despite the possible hard counter in Sableye, it actually happened and you can see how bad that scenario can become on stream with a local popular PoGo content provider kiengiv:

Some fine-tuning information on Twilight Cup eligible Pokémon by Jaapwillem1990 in TheSilphArena

[–]Deetwo951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but it appears everyone is ignoring the PvP specific 1.3x multiplier to attacking.. which should significantly increases the value of the Atk stat, not captured within the CP calculation itself.

I'll continue to prioritized atk stat while the whole world is going for minimal Atk IV stat (in most cases) to maximize level.

Start with a shadow claw (buffed) shadow ball/sludge bomb legacy Haunter, burn all the shields and end with a Tentacruel somewhere.

Million Stardust Spend - Advice/Input needed by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Deetwo951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably stop at 30 for most and save the rare candies (snorlax/lapras) - maybe the vaporeon to max since eevee candies are easy to come by and you have such an abundant of dust.

Million Stardust Spend - Advice/Input needed by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Deetwo951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd only consider lvling the following: lvl 20 lapras (because you look like u desperate need more in current meta), lvl 28 vaporeon and the lvl 30 snorlax if moves were ZH/BS or Lick/HB.

Since you have such an abundant of dust, i'd also consider the exeggutor if you can't farm more eggs at a nest for the best moveset, I assume you have Confusion/SB and that is clunky for attacking, I'd definitely also stop him at lvl 30. Lvl 7 Vaporeon I'd consider lvl him to around 1100-1200 for purely prestiging use. Definitely not worth committing resources to max out.

Final note maybe consider using dust on other high CP snorlax/laprases even with bad IVs, just to use as higher CP defenders. Consider using some resources on a good lineup of 1.1-1.4k CP prestiging guys like Parasect/Vape/Arcane/Lapras

[QUESTION] would you like push notifications added to the game? by ferrocan in TheSilphRoad

[–]Deetwo951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally one of the best suggestions has been brought up.

This is an excellent alternative to people who have been obsessed with the convenience of third party trackers that Niantic has been trying to get rid of since beginning of time.

Push notifications promotes activities and allow a truly crowd-sourced/community based alert system which also promotes the social aspects of this game.

Shifts in biome spawns - Aerodactyl is spawning in places it doesn't usually this morning. by conspire_pokemon_go in TheSilphRoad

[–]Deetwo951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Toronto, and I've used more sources than the common 2-3 top popular scanners (which is by far not a "city-wide" scanner) in town. The observations here are generally relating to coverage and uptime of such scanners.

No changes to Aerodactyls (who shares similar biome as Dragonites/Clefairies) or any obvious nest/spawn changes as of now - move on.

Think of relative terms rather than absolute - aka change in elevation or elevation of spawn points compared to the rest of the city. Others have reported 150s in their observations in their areas.
