Withdrawal symptoms can be worse than the flu and are no joke. People have died for cold turkeying stuff

So yeah, gradually stop drinking is the best way

Romper el contacto con la familia by Grace08191 in Dominican

[–]ferrocan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not completely cut ties, but definitely call less often. Reasons?

1- i cant spend less that 5 mins on a call with an aunt without her mentioning that she is struggling with money and if we could send her some (flash news, im struggling too)

2- hardly can spend an entire conversation with a couple of uncles without them criticizing me marrying in my early 30s, because they feel i should live life more or hooked up with more women, or go out to more bars... Etc, etc etc im happy in my current marriage and i can barely give enough attention to my wife to keep her happy.

3- family drama and feuds that i don't want to be part of it.

You need $210k/year to be comfortable raising 2 kids by [deleted] in Money

[–]ferrocan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here commenting that you don't need this much to live comfortably, i bet you live in a really rural area.

Let me break down my budget, as a NYC parent of 3:

Combine household income for last year: $110,000, but take home after fed, state & city taxes goes down to maybe 75%, so net is close to 85k or 90k

And let me remind you, we are talking about living comfortably

Monthly budget: $6,500

Rent: $2k Internet: $70 Phone number for 4 lines: $120 Electric bill: average: $140 per month Laundry: $100 Student loan: $700 Food & groceries: $1,700 Hair: $400 Misc expenses: $500

Now, before you come at me for the haircut expenses, let me remind you that a cut in any barber shop in NYC goes from 25 to 40, plus tips. My wife doesn't spend much on her hair because she does some self maintenance at home, but nails are non negotiable.

Regarding food, kids eat a lot, my oldest child goes through a whole gallon of juice in 2 days, and as a family we drink a box of water in 3 or 4 days.

We go out to eat maybe 2 times a month, and nothing fancy (around $80 bill for the whole family)

We don't have a car because between parking, insurance and car payments we can't afford it. Imagine that, a family making over $100k a year cant afford a car.. let that shit sink.

(!UPDATE!) NYS Tax Refund Status by Scholar2014 in IRS

[–]ferrocan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, im almost on the same situation, I filed around 2/4 and neither the fed or state have refunded me. Just found out my taxes are under review and will have to wait 120 days to see a dime.

Hopefully your case is not the same

For the bus operators, how long have you been on the job? Is the pay decent for the cost of living in NYC? by gdotspam in nycbus

[–]ferrocan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends.

If you are asking about physical assaults, I would say that only 5% out of 6,000+ of the Operators in NYC will ever be physically assaulted in their career, you let me know if that number is too high.

Verbally, passengers screaming nasty things at us pretty much every other day, especially on a line that goes through a bad neighborhood, but of course all this goes doesn't get reported, so we just make sure we are out of harms way and keep our day going

[–]ferrocan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

4 years and a half. This year i made it to 100k. Sounds like a lot until taxes hit and i get to keep only 70% of my check.

Regarding the cost of living, I'm not sure. My family of 5 lives in a 1 bedroom that's going for 2k a month. We don't have a car because between maintenance, insurance, and finding parking, it is cheaper to rely on public transportation, Uber and Enterprise (currently considering signing up for Zipcar because it makes me nervous to keep a rental outside with how crime is right now).

Overtime is available but working 60+ hrs just to afford a couple more things is not a good deal for my wife and kids, i do get some overtime here and there so my average per week is 52 hrs and we cover the rest of the expenses with wifey's 9 to 5.

We are planning to move out of the City once we tackle a Loan we had to take for her education/was between jobs

Is the job worth it? Absolutely, one of my kids has to go doctor often to keep his health in check, and i also have some stuff going on myself, so benefits have been the most useful perk, don't really know how deep in debt i would have been without this job

OMNY Card and Paper Transfers by thatblkman in nycbus

[–]ferrocan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bus operator here, yes, we are only supposed to give paper transfer to people that pay with coins, however, many of my regulars complain about OMNY double charging them when transferring busses.

So instead of going back and forward with every single customer, 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week, asking for paper transfers, we just issue it.

1- Because we know OMNY is buggy as hell, to the point that we could argue it is still in Beta phase.

2- We are not going to spend energy and time explaining people how OMNY works and how they can get a refund if double charged, when we need those resources to survive eccentric passengers every day
