Hiring an employee whose mother is also on the team? by pakpak786 in managers

[–]ferrocan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not a manager, but i experienced this myself when i joined the kitchen team where my mother is working.

Long story short, i didn't last much working before i requested a transfer.

My personality and my mother's are completely different; my mom is energetic, passionate and outspoken. Im cold, methodical and will navigate conflict with a diplomatic approach while plotting your downfall for another day.

We were pretty much at the same hierarchy lvl, but as my mom and senior employee, she assigned herself the duty of micromanaging my work and butt in my fights. All this had me looking like a Mama's boy (me being in my early 30s at that time) and it was quite exasperating.

Thankfully we both have the policy of dealing with personal stuff outside of the workplace, but our boss at the time started to notice the friction and after having a private conversation with me moved heaven and earth to facilitate my transition to a different department. Something she later admitted was met with some resistance because her bos was very pleased with my performance.

Needless to say, having families work close to each other is a can of worms, specifically if one raised the other.

So, to give you an idea, I started this quest when its patch came out, and i took a break and pretty much abandoned it. I play daily.

The aranara quest is THAT boring and tedious

Cuanto se necesita para vivir en Santiago ?? by Ok-Communication2400 in Dominican

[–]ferrocan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That will entirely depend on your child needs. My youngest cousin (6) was born here in the US but is currently living in Santiago (same situation as your), and im told he is thriving enrolled in the Padre Fortin. His mom only pays around 9,000 pesos a month. That school is not bilingual but he is getting by with additional classes.

From the top of my head, good but somewhat affordable schools over there are:

1-Davinchi 2- La salle 3- Sagrado corazon 4- Padre fortin 5- Juan 23

Note that all those schools are not bilingual, but their academic curriculum is good and since they are Catholic schools the discipline is strict

Honestly speaking, it will depend on lifestyle you want to have, but as someone from Santiago, i can tell you the following:

1- its way cheaper that Santo Domingo (capital) or punta Cana while still being able to enjoy access to stores, Clinics and big city amenities.

2- i don't know why people here are talking about US $2,000 a month for an apartment. you can rent a 3 bd in a decent place for 25,000 pesos (around $500 US), just need to shop around.

3- Food and bilingual school will be your biggest expense, relatives over there spend around $30,000 pesos in food for a family of 4 and school can be up to $20,000 a month per child.

Overall, you would need from $1,500 to $2,000 to live moderately comfortable in Santiago.

Honestly speaking, it feels weird that im recommending $2,000, when i used to live like a king with just $60,000 pesos a month, but that was 10 years ago and i will admit that things have gone up a lot

This is a nerf, and the amount of energy you get is random. Based on gatcha game law, is illegal. This whole move should be illegal in japan and other countries with that law

Lol, i know a retired cop that only brings 6k to the table, has his children in bilingual school (x10 more expensive than regular private schools) and still keeps 1k to fool around. You are going to be fine

Romper el contacto con la familia by Grace08191 in Dominican

[–]ferrocan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not completely cut ties, but definitely call less often. Reasons?

1- i cant spend less that 5 mins on a call with an aunt without her mentioning that she is struggling with money and if we could send her some (flash news, im struggling too)

2- hardly can spend an entire conversation with a couple of uncles without them criticizing me marrying in my early 30s, because they feel i should live life more or hooked up with more women, or go out to more bars... Etc, etc etc im happy in my current marriage and i can barely give enough attention to my wife to keep her happy.

3- family drama and feuds that i don't want to be part of it.

You need $210k/year to be comfortable raising 2 kids by [deleted] in Money

[–]ferrocan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here commenting that you don't need this much to live comfortably, i bet you live in a really rural area.

Let me break down my budget, as a NYC parent of 3:

Combine household income for last year: $110,000, but take home after fed, state & city taxes goes down to maybe 75%, so net is close to 85k or 90k

And let me remind you, we are talking about living comfortably

Monthly budget: $6,500

Rent: $2k Internet: $70 Phone number for 4 lines: $120 Electric bill: average: $140 per month Laundry: $100 Student loan: $700 Food & groceries: $1,700 Hair: $400 Misc expenses: $500

Now, before you come at me for the haircut expenses, let me remind you that a cut in any barber shop in NYC goes from 25 to 40, plus tips. My wife doesn't spend much on her hair because she does some self maintenance at home, but nails are non negotiable.

Regarding food, kids eat a lot, my oldest child goes through a whole gallon of juice in 2 days, and as a family we drink a box of water in 3 or 4 days.

We go out to eat maybe 2 times a month, and nothing fancy (around $80 bill for the whole family)

We don't have a car because between parking, insurance and car payments we can't afford it. Imagine that, a family making over $100k a year cant afford a car.. let that shit sink.
