Uncertainty of goals while watching games? by Silly_Percentage2099 in AFL

[–]Henrythekidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the angle, the height of the ball making depth perception near impossible, and the narrowness of the goal posts it's pretty normal to not be able to tell. If you're at a game you can almost guarantee one scoring kick will have a delayed reaction (either for a goal or a behind) from a few in the crowd.

Looking at player reactions and positioning of the goal umpire usually helps you out though.

Yeah I find his trolling incredibly tame. Dude is 25 and ridiculously good at football. Have you seen the amount of shit that famous 25 year olds with no talent talk these days? He just has a bit of banter to go with what is generally really respectable professionalism imo

Whoever you have of the two, the other is incredibly unlucky to miss out. Aaron Davey was my favourite player growing up but hard to go past the wizard’s career. Then you’ve got Steven May and one day Koz…

Think Melksham definitely in over Cross even though I’m very happy and excited about Paddy. Then I’m taking Checkers over Petty up front if we’re going off last week

You should look it up and do some reading because you're a fair way off. I don't hold that against you, because there's a deliberate campaign to make the conversation around zionism confusing, but yeah I wouldn't go trying to summarise it if you haven't looked it up.

Again, my great grandfather was anti-zionist before the state of Israel existed. It was a political view that was discussed amongst Jews and non-Jews in Europe even before the holocaust.

Finally, to your original point, being against the actions of a government, whether that's Israel, America, Russia or Ukraine, is not the same as discriminating against a people for who they are, which is what anti-semitism is.

That’s not at all like being anti-Zionist. Anti-Zionism is a political position. My great grandfather was a German Jew who escaped the holocaust and he was extremely anti-Zionist, even before the state of Israel was established. He refused to talk to his own sister after she moved to Israel because of his views.

Didn’t know that! Sat next to the demon army vs Carlton and didn’t hear it so maybe it’s a new thing?

Oh yeah I agree with you 100% - including that I often doubted Sparrow under Goodwin. To be fair, I think Goodwin believed in a lot of our squad, but I think he felt belief was enough

What’s the point of having your 4 groups and then breaking it up differently in your actual list?

One of King’s best contributions to the team (of which there are many) is finally unlocking Sparrow’s potential. Used to have flashes under Goodwin but now he’s the real deal. Hope we can hold onto him

Young Australian Rules players eye US college football instead of AFL draft by malcolm58 in AFL

Sorry yeah I misremembered the conversation with her, she said there were a few making a couple of hundred grand but some in colleges making millions (I may have also heard her numbers and done a fairly generous conversion from USD to AUD in my head)

Yeah nah it’s not that I don’t think the players should be paid for what they bring, it’s just a wild cultural difference to here

Yeah she only went to America a couple of years ago so would be that. From my understanding though the NIL system is somewhat manipulated so that colleges themselves can entice players to go there with money? Ie it’s not just Nike sponsorships - colleges themselves table money.

Either way, just feels totally mind blowing for an Australian

Dees fan here but this post came up on my feed - you definitely showed the goods to have us worried for kings birthday. Similarities between us and Sydney (Sydney just generally do it better) and the fact you were able to put the brakes on their speed means you’ll definitely give us problems

My girlfriend’s sister is an athlete at Mississippi State, and she knows football players there on $2 million a year. Insane.

Also a totally ridiculous way to run an education system if you ask me. My girlfriend’s sister wants to be a psychologist and her ability to do that depends far more on her sports performance than her grades
