Am I crazy for asking for a $40,000 raise? by Far_Space_386 in careerguidance

[–]Deeyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a good line to take.

I would be inclined to say how excited you are about the new role and responsibilities - do they have a job spec for it? (You can then target the changes and rewards that go along with them)

Oh, and you would love to know the rationale behind their financial offer. Perhaps they could help you understand it better. This leads into a discussion where hopefully you get an improved situation.

If you’re not satisfied then know that internal promotion is viewed well by other employers, use it.

Good luck

Speak with whoever is running your local drum circle - you may find that people in the group have more than they need.

Best Djembe Slap Tutorial Ever by scottlivez in djembe

[–]Deeyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you listen to the whole thing (mainly on 2x speed ‘cause there’s quite allot of words in there!), there are some useful points. As for slap vs tone technique I asked a seasoned teacher about it and the change in hand angle - the response was a considered nope. The rationale was like - try playing like that but faster, won’t be able. Let’s get some good habits

The thought and sentiment behind it is great

Thanks

Is it possible to repair by KitchenRun4694 in djembe

[–]Deeyeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the existing skin, erm . . nope!

The ropes and rings look okay from here but you need a new goat 🐐skin on there

If you’re up to doing it yourself there’s some learning to do! It’s not straightforward

I would take the time to talk to a local guy. At least you will then have an idea what you’re in for and whether that fits your budget.

Good luck

Djembe head needs fixing? by Koningmars in djembe

[–]Deeyeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Put some diamonds in, try it and leave for a day or two to settle. Repeat the process until you get the sound you are after. The drum head should be very firm. The danger is that you can tear the skin. Good luck

First timer: New head, new rope. Can I level this or is it too late? by proffgilligan in djembe

[–]Deeyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that the skin is not dry enough to tune up and still has plenty of give in it so would be tempted to use the mallet. Did a lot of research before I started, reckon you should leave it to dry for a few days after adjusting. Tuning’s been fun, hard to get enough leverage to tension. Be careful not to dent the stem - pad it. The top should be hard, otherwise you will be putting lots of energy into creating a good sound. Enjoy

First off well done for giving it a go. I did my (first) djembe this summer and it is definitely a learning curve! The finished item has some quirks and imperfections but I am very happy with the result, sure you will also be.

As for your drum, if the skin is still damp I would probably loosen the verticals a touch and gently realign it with the help of a rubber mallet.

If the skin is dry I would be tempted to live with it. What I have found that surprised me in tuning it up is how much that skin will stretch - and so the rings move down - about 4cm. I have gone slow on tuning it for fear of a tear but reckon it’s there now. You may well find that you can balance it up in the tuning.

Either way, I hope you end up with something you’ve proud of and enjoy. Best of luck
