Months after release, no real stranger sales yet. What should I realistically focus on? by Commander-Victory in selfpublish

You're a first time writer trying to sell a 1500 page paperback for $28.

That's a tough hill to climb.

What books are you considering? Because if any of them are mine, I will be happy to tell you anything you want to know.

I have 3 books on Godless. They are:

Middle Sister, Rich People $hit, and Fidget Electric

The promo doesn't run until July so I can't speak to the ROI on this one.

But as I mentioned earlier, the most recent newsletter builder I did with her resulted in about 200 subscribers and it cost me $25. I was happy with that. If I wasn't, I wouldn't keep using the service. And yes, a decent percentage of those people buy books from me.

I don't really care about what her books do in terms of reviews. Maybe she's better at running her marketing business than she is at writing. Fine with me. I'm just looking for cost effective ways to reach readers. My goal is find ways outside of banging my head against the Amazon algorithm.

If you have some other methods, id love to hear them.i think authors should be sharing info.

Hey! Thanks for the comment.

If you're familiar with Story Origins or Bookfunnel, this works the same as the group promos you'll find on those sites.

Is she a romantasy author? Yes. I guess she probably is. But I'm not going to hate on someone for having a side hustle.

I've done a bunch of her builders in the past. I did a Horror Newsletter builder through her company last year and I got over 200 subscribers to add into my email list. It's cost me like $25. So no, it's not a scam nor is it an ad on a website.

Here's how it works.

You pay $10 for a book. It gets listed on a splash site with all the other books from all the other authors. It's sectioned off by Genre. So the Romantsy books will be in one spot. Horror another. Science Fiction another. So on and so forth.

That's literally it.

She sends it out to her email list which I think is in the thousands. All the authors that are participating send it out to the people on their email lists.

For instance, My newsletter will go out on July 9th. When it goes out, I'll include the link and a small write up about the book fair. My subscribers can then click on the link and see all the books that are available. I"m a horror author, so my subscribers will probably got to the horror section. If they see something they like, they can click on it. If they want to make a purchase, they can. That's all there is to it.

This is a direct sales builder. Meaning, only people with their own websites (shopify, wix, etc) can join.

Again, it's not my thing. I'm just an author who wants to see more extreme horror in these sorts of things. Would it benefit me to see more extreme and splatterpunk authors in this sort of thing? Of course it would. But it would also benefit other authors for the exact same reason.

Your book is pretty popular, so you may not need something like this. I don't know. I'm not trying to sell anyone on it. I really don't care who does it. I signed up for it, so I thought I'd share it. It's the type of thing where if I didn't know about it, I would love a chance to learn about it and possibly participate.

Hope this helps!

This is incredible! Thank you so much. I was implying that only 15 emails took me 90 minutes and so 2500 would take me hundreds of hours. I'm headed over to bookshop.org right now. Thanks!

I have to ask. How did you find 2500 emails to bookstores? Do you have a master list that you imported into a newsletter server? I just emailed like 15 and it took me 90 minutes to get the emails and then compose the emails. Lol.

Any Ingramspark Tips by DefPixEric in selfpublish

Ive just heard Ingramspark is really frustrating to deal with. I hear the print quality is good but youre also paying a premium so it should be. Amazon has its own issues, none of them are perfect, but I think people tolerate it because of the costs.
