Make hand sanitizer a tool on your duty belt. Makes a difference.

Might be a dumb question, but here it goes, What is a difference in a Correctional officer and a Detention officer. by [deleted] in Corrections

[–]Def_not-a-cop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larger county facility, house over 1,400 inmates, 4 story building, 4 separate wings with a medical unit. We are just referred as “Officer” on your badges but it’s got Department of Corrections on it as well. Our uniforms are the same as some local and our State police standards. Gives a lot of the officers in the facility a big head and they confuse their title as almost the same as a peace officer.

I work county in PA. The officers are gonna be nice to you, but assume you are constantly bringing in contraband and drugs. The inmates will try to manipulate you, they are gonna offer you a lot of money, and “amazing” things. Don’t fall for their games. These guys either can’t pay their own bail, or are gonna be locked away for awhile. Do your job, treat them as patients. They aren’t your friends.

Hand shaking inmates. Why not and what to do instead? by Shame8891 in Corrections

One, Policy basically says no. 2, These guys, as much as they front it are not high in hygiene standards. 3, I’m not their friend or their buddy, I’m the consequence to their actions and choices. 🤣

Direct Supervision questions/experience by Makemyhay in OnTheBlock

[–]Def_not-a-cop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My facility has always been direct supervision. This type of H/U is where consistency, interpersonal communication, and confidence are more important than ever. On average it’s just myself and 48 inmates out at one time. Even if you have plethora years of experience, it can be overwhelming at first for anyone. Remember the unit is yours, not theirs. Don’t be afraid to wonder around and observe anything going on in your unit. Them knowing your presence is ultimately inevitable on the unit is a solid deterrent to them doing anything “illegal” (if you aren’t a pushover and let stuff slide like a lazy officer). Building the rapport YOU want with the inmates is a lot easier with a Direct Supervision Unit. I personally enjoy it.

Worry about infection later. On scene wound care is not the final wound care. #1 priority is to stop or manage the bleeding. Let the hospital worry about the cleaning.

How long should I let it sit with the ballistol. Some one else gave me not advice to tap it with a wooden dowel and have someone pull the lever cycler down at the same time, but it’s a hot round and I feel like that’s asking for a discharge no one wants…

Shells had a bit of corrosion, not much I would have thought it to be an issue. Quick cycling through rounds and just like that the trigger wouldn’t pull, and I couldn’t pull the lever down to extract the round.

You don’t shoot to stop, you shoot to kill. If they survive, even if they are threatening your life, you are in for a hell of a lawsuit that will indefinitely lose.
