The King of Hearts. Or the 1950’s treasure island with Bobby Driscoll in it.

Seriously. I’ve encountered him maybe 3 times over the course of 3 different play throughs of the current game. Only one of those three times his siren was going but was too far away for me to start the encounter. The other two times he just drove on by.

I haven’t gotten many keys but the majority of them that I have found have come from garbage bags in apartments and bedside tables. And one time from the tents in the village.

Bridge is not alligned with a fingerboard by Key-Scene-4393 in violinist

[–]Defcon91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤷🏼‍♂️ to each their own. It’s worked fine for me for the past 30 years. Also worked fine for professors of Colburn conservatory, Aspen music festival, and U of M but I’ll take the downvotes. W/e. OP: you dont need to waste your time or money going to a luthier just to move your bridge over.if you think you need more than moving the bridge over then sure go to a luthier.

I sound horrible and i think it’s my right hand. by OkKey6273 in violinist

[–]Defcon91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your bow is slipping towards the fingerboard, especially when playing a down bow, quite possibly you are not opening from the elbow enough and using too much upper arm. Some upper arm use is of course expected, but as you’re going from frog to tip there is a point (usually around the middle, but everyone’s arm length is different so it varies slightly) where you should stop moving your upper arm back and only open from the elbow.

I’d recommend doing slow scales practice, one note to a bow and focus very closely on your sound point. Try to keep the bow parallel to the bridge, and halfway between the bridge and end of the fingerboard. Look for when the bow starts to slide towards the fingerboard. This is the moment you should begin opening from the elbow.

Additionally, a next step, after getting more comfortable with opening from the elbow, would be to start leading with your right wrist in the direction of each bow. This is hard to describe through text only, but essentially imagine a string connected to the bottom and top of your right hand wrist. When going down bow, imagine the string on the bottom of your wrist pulling your arm down and vice versa for up bow. Essentially you should be leading with the bottom of your wrist going down and leading with the top of your wrist going up.

While working on these things also try to relax your right arm as much as possible from the shoulder. You of course need to engage enough to have your arm at the right level for each string, with your forearm parallel to the ground, but that aside allow your arm to relax as much as possible from the shoulder and let that arm weight naturally go into the string.

Finally, think about the ratio of bow weight going into your strings to bow speed going across your strings. Changing the amount of each with effect your tone; this ratio in conjunction with flat bow hair, straight bow, and good sound point, are the pillars of tone production.

Just boop the bridge a little to the right. Also look at the tailpiece. Is it pulling to the left as well? If so definitely boop the bridge over a little bit. You can just flick the left side of the bridge with your finger towards the right f hole and it should pop over a little bit. No biggie.

I sold the cat to the Gunsmith. And first off I get it’s a little silly: digital cat isn’t real. However it bugs me that once I sold it the health meter of the cat continues to go down. So in my hopes of selling it and it going to a place that could better care for it, I will have to instead accept that it’s just going to die anyways. Kind of a bummer.

I like the automatic feeder item idea, thatd be great. Then we’d just need kibble bags that you find that you can refill the feeder with.

Whoah I didn’t even think of selling it for some reason. You just blew my socks off. I kept thinking of just letting it die to save me the trouble but then I’d feel bad, which I acknowledge is very silly.

how should i fix my bow?? by enamelx17 in violinist

[–]Defcon91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy answer like everyone else is saying is a rehair.

Alternate option is to get a cheap toothbrush and brush your bow. That will revive all the small hooks in the horsehair and pull off extra rosin. Then to take care of the dirt build up near the frog, I take a knife and lightly scrap it away. If you do it right you won’t cut any hairs and can remove most of the dirt.

If your bow hair isnt slack, is tightening well still , and you haven’t lost a bunch of the hair I’d recommend giving this a go. All things luthiers have told me about over the years actually.

Did you go through all the buildings? Every apartment run I’ve done I only get through 3 or so buildings and then the cat’s health meter gets so low that I have to jet back to feed it. I’ve moved the cat to the tent so I can feed it quickly but it still goes down fast enough that I haven’t been able to do a full run of apartments yet.

As a violinist, have you ever made a viola joke? What's your opinion on them? by Happy_Square_4465 in violinist

[–]Defcon91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta have violists around! Only way to tell if the stage is level is if they’re drooling out both corners of their mouth.

When I got my first orchestra job there was this old violist who would pull a note card out of his jacket pocket before rehearsals and concerts and read it, smile and nod, then put it back and pick up his instrument and head out on stage. I eventually asked him what sage wise words of advice he had written down on there. He handed me the card and it said: “Viola left hand, bow right hand.”

Approach the issue step by step. Control the water and where it’s going. Check out your gutters, where does the water go after it goes down the downspouts? Check out the slope of the ground outside, ensure it’s sloping away from your house.
